A few familiar faces in here. 😄

Looking back at last year’s Break O'Day Triathlon Challenge and there’s a lot to love.

Plenty of first-timers giving triathlon a crack, the regulars back for another go, families and mates lining the course, volunteers pitching in and a whole lot of smiles in between.

That’s probably our favourite thing about this event. You don’t have to be a serious triathlete to be part of it.

Have a go. Rope a mate in. Put a team together. Volunteer. Cheer ridiculously loudly from the sidelines. It all counts.

We’re a small community, and days like this are pretty special when everyone gets behind them.

The Break O’Day Triathlon Club, together with Launceston Triathlon Club, will be doing it all again in 2027.

📅 7 February 2027
📍 St Helens, Tasmania.

If you’ve been thinking about having a crack at your first triathlon, this could be your sign. 😉

And if you were there last year, see if you can spot yourself in the reel!

Racing with us in 2027? Time to get a few things sorted. 👇

☑️ Lock in the date
📅 Save the Date – 7 February 2027
The Break O’Day Triathlon Challenge is back, run in conjunction with the Launceston Triathlon Club.

☑️ Book your accommodation early
February is peak summer on the East Coast and St Helens and surrounds can book out quickly. If you're planning to stay for the weekend, now is a very good time to lock something in.

☑️ Start training
Swim. Ride. Run. Repeat. You know the drill. 😅

☑️ Bring the support crew
There’s nothing quite like having your own cheer squad waiting for you on course and at the finish line.

☑️ Make a weekend of it on the East Coast Tasmania
You've already made the trip, so leave a little room either side of race day to enjoy this beautiful part of Tassie.

🚵 Hit the St Helens Mountain Bike Trails
🏖️ Explore the beaches of the Bay of Fires
🥾 Take a coastal walk
🦪 Find yourself some local seafood
☕ Enjoy a slow post-race breakfast in St Helens

This is what community looks like. 💙

Before last year’s Freycinet Holiday Houses Bay of Fires Triathlon Challenge, we received this message from someone in our community offering to rally a group of volunteers to help out on the day.

And really, that sums up our little corner of Tassie pretty well.

We live in a small community, and one of our greatest strengths is that when something is happening, people pull together. Events like the Bay of Fires Triathlon Challenge simply couldn’t happen without the locals who give their time, lend a hand, cheer from the sidelines and quietly get stuck into whatever needs doing.

So, we’re putting the call out again. 7 February 2027! 📣

If you’d like to be part of this year’s event in any way, big or small, we’d love to hear from you. You don’t need to know anything about triathlon, and you definitely don’t need to own a pair of Lycra shorts. 😂

Come for an hour, come for the day, bring a mate, bring a group. There’s a place for anyone who wants to lend a hand and be part of a great community event.

Want to help? Send us a message and say hello. 💙

5 things I wish I knew before my first triathlon:

1. Don’t push too hard at the start of the swim. Swimming in open water with a lot of people around you can cause you to panic and still makes me think to myself “why am I doing this.” You will get settled in and then can push harder later on.

2. Look at the bike course beforehand. It is also good to know where the hard turns are so you don’t cross the yellow line and get a penalty as well as where the climbs are so you are prepared.

3. Bring a light or headlamp to set up transitions. Transitions open in the dark and it can be really hard to set up your transitions using a phone as a light.

4. Know where your stuff is in transition so you can find it. Especially if there is only one transition zone, know how to find your stuff even if your bike isn’t there (I definitely didn’t get lost once).

5. Trust your training, you got this. You put in all of the hard work, be proud of yourself for what you are doing and most importantly have fun, because only do something if you enjoy it.

What would you add to this list for the newbies?

Some are smooth. Some... become core memories. 😅🚴💦

What's the funniest thing that's happened to you during a race? 👇

Image description: A video shows Dutch triathlete Youri Keulen racing the cycling leg of the T100 Triathlon World Tour in Singapore. As he rides at speed past an aid station, volunteers extend water bottles for competitors. Keulen attempts to collect a bottle but misses, then misses four more consecutive handoffs, with bottles dropping to the road as he continues riding without slowing. Despite the hydration setback and challenging race conditions, he remains focused, continues the race, and later goes on to win the men's event. The footage highlights the speed, precision and split-second timing required during aid station exchanges in elite triathlon competition.

Not every race is about chasing a finish line.

Sometimes it's about building confidence, practising transitions, testing your race-day nutrition, or simply getting comfortable pinning on a race bib again.

The Launceston Triathlon Club Series of events is the perfect lead-up to the Break O'Day Triathlon Challenge. With events to suit all ages and abilities, it's a great chance to sharpen your skills, build fitness, and enjoy racing alongside an encouraging triathlon community.

If you're aiming for a PB at Break O'Day or taking on your very first triathlon, every start line gets you one step closer.

Who's planning to use the Launceston Triathlon Series as part of their Break O'Day preparation? 🏊🚴🏃

🏊🏃 LTC's first event of the season is here!

It's time to kick off the season with their Swim Run!
Choose a distance that suits you and come along for a fun, relaxed morning. They'll start with a swim in the heated indoor pool, then get changed to stay warm before heading outside for the run. It's the perfect opportunity to have a go and experience two of the three disciplines of triathlon in a supportive environment.

💙 Everyone is welcome!

We all know the feeling...

The minute you throw a leg over the bike, everything else can wait. 🌊🚴🏃

Work? Tomorrow.
Housework? It'll still be there.
Laundry? Probably still in the basket.

A ride just has a way of fixing things.

Nothing bruised but the ego.

If you've ever had one of those moments, welcome to the club. We've all been there.

Who's ready to swap the trainer for Tassie's roads this season? 🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️
