Here is a training tip that does not involve training: sleep. 😴 Good, consistent sleep does more for your body's repair than almost anything else you can do. It is when tissue rebuilds, energy restores and your nervous system resets.

Skimp on it and everything feels harder, from your workouts to your patience. Protect your wind-down and keep your hours steadier through the week.

Tag someone who needs the early-night reminder.

Word of the month: scapula 🦴 Better known as your shoulder blade, the scapula is the floating base your whole shoulder relies on. It is not bolted to your ribcage like most bones. Instead it glides across your back, steered by a team of muscles.

When those muscles are strong and coordinated, your shoulder moves freely. When they switch off, the shoulder above tends to complain. Retraining that control is a big part of what we do in physio. Save this for the next time your shoulder feels off.

August is Tradies National Health Month, and your body has been quietly clocking up the kilometres. 💪

Lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching, all day, every day. Physiotherapy helps tradespeople manage aches, reduce the risk of injury and stay on the tools for the long haul. Prevention beats downtime every time. The ni**le you are ignoring is easier to deal with now than in six months.

"If it hurts, rest until it stops." It sounds sensible, but for most injuries it is not the full story. 🤔

A day or two of relative rest has its place. Beyond that, prolonged stillness stiffens joints, fades strength and can slow recovery down. The trick is the right kind of movement at the right stage.

That is a big part of what physiotherapy does: working out what your body is ready for next.

Got questions about an injury you are nursing? Drop them in the comments.

When even small tasks leave you wiped out, it is frustrating and disheartening. You are not imagining it.

After illness or a long stretch of low activity, the body can become deconditioned, which means everyday effort feels far harder than it should. The way back is not to push until you crash, but a graded approach that rebuilds tolerance gently and steadily. Small, consistent steps add up more than the occasional heroic effort.

If this is where you are, have a chat with our team at St Leonards Physiotherapy. We can work through it together. Call (02) 9438 1782.

Surgery on the horizon? What you do before can matter as much as what you do after. 🙋♀️

It is natural to feel nervous about an operation. Here is something reassuring: building strength and movement beforehand, sometimes called prehab, can set you up for a smoother recovery. Going in stronger tends to mean coming out steadier.

Then a structured post-surgery plan guides you safely back, step by step.

If you have a procedure coming up, book in with our team at St Leonards Physiotherapy on (02) 9438 1782 and we can build a plan together.
