Council is in full swing campaigning for our Aquatic Redevelopment Project and has been busy behind the scenes meeting with different levels of government and party candidates ahead of November's State Election.

We are aware that many in our community may not have seen the redevelopment concepts that were commissioned as part of the feasibility study and surveying works. These are initial concept designs, primarily for phase one that focuses on aquatic and foyer redevelopment, however there are some illustrations to show early indications for the stadium and gym facilities as well.

Don't forget to join in the fun with our school holiday program tomorrow!

💦 Aqua Sensory Play 💦
🕑 9am to 10am

Aqua Sensory Play is for babies and toddlers (3 months to 5 years) to allow for exploration, interaction and new experiences.

Sensory Play is perfect for infants under 12 months of age or toddlers who are yet to start swimming lessons. While not a formal lesson, there is a staff member in the pool with the group to provide advice and assist with making your child feel comfortable around water should you need it.

Everything you see, hear and touch will contribute to a unique enhanced sensory experience. There's a range of toys provided to help stimulate their sensors in the pool and keep them entertained.

It's also a great opportunity for friends, parents or carers to connect.

Please be aware that our indoor stadium is closed for cleaning today, Monday, September 21 between 11am and 5pm.

We have recently purchased a new floor cleaner specifically for our hardwood floors and will be doing our first trial run of the basketball courts.

This means they will be super clean and ready for our upcoming stadium games and other school holiday activities over the coming weeks!

Our female changeroom facilities will closed tomorrow, Monday, September 21 and Tuesday, September 22.

After receiving reports from concerned patrons about the slippery floor following the recent paint works, we are adding a non-slip sealer onto the floor running from the entrance and along the shower walkway.

We appreciate this may cause some temporary inconvenience for our pool users; however your safety is paramount, so we appreciate your understanding while this facility update is completed. Should you have any questions, please call the centre on (03) 5358 0550.

We've said it before and we'll say it again - strong summer swimmers are made during winter!

This is why our annual Winter Passport promotion is such a successful program. It encourages lesson participation over the cooler months when it's easier to stay indoors and put lessons on hold.

A big thank you to all the students and families who kept their children enrolled in lessons over winter and continued to grow their swimming and water safety skills.

The prizes this year were very sought after by the students, and as you can see by the smiles on Aylah and Hazel's faces, these two kids were very excited to collect their new stand-up paddle board and life jacket.

In preparation for summer, we are adding Teen Swimming Lessons back into our weekly timetable on Thursday afternoons.

Royal Life Saving Australia research shows more than 40 per cent of all children leaving primary school have not achieved the national benchmarks for swimming and water safety education for 12-year-olds. And that's why we are making them available again before the weather heats up.

Available on Thursdays at 4pm, they are aimed at improving skill levels for youth aged 10 years and older. Students who have basic swimming and water safety skills but would like to increase their confidence in the water to ensure they feel confident. Equally important for parents, we want you to feel comfortable that your child has solid swimming foundations and know how to get themselves out of trouble.

We want to break down barriers associated with learning to swim at these ages and create a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment for young people to learn alongside their peers.

As we head into the warmer months, it is important you remember to always keep a close eye on children around water. Be that at the pool, a beach, the lake, and even in the bath.

✅ Children under 5 years: Must stay within arm’s reach during recreational play activities. This includes your weekly swimming lessons.

✅ Children under 10 years: Must be constantly and actively supervised. Parents/guardians must position themselves to have a clear view of the child with no physical or structural barriers between them and the child/children.

✅ Children 10 years and older: Parents must use their knowledge of an individual child’s swimming ability and general development to determine the level of accompaniment required.

Northern Grampians Shire Council and Stawell Sports and Aquatic Centre proudly support the Life Saving Victoria Watch Around Water policy to ensure every child can enjoy the water safely in our care, but we need you to support it too.

And don’t forget - PINK WRISTBANDS must be worn by students aged 0-4 years and under and YELLOW WRISTBANDS must be worn students aged between 5-9 years anytime they are in the pool. This helps us identify who is in the pool at any given time for safety reasons.
