It is with great sadness we advise of the passing of Don Loughry in the early hours of 12 October 2026.
There are few people that represent what our great club stands for more than Don Loughry and we understand that our supporters will be deeply saddened by this news.
Back in 1964 Don was a member of our Foundation Team. He proudly played 79 games for St Patrick’s Rugby Club as a skilful outside back.
Don’s incredible contributions to the Club did not end as a player. For over 60 years he served as an administrator, coach and supporter of our club.
Don was our 1st Grade Coach in the early 1970s when we enjoyed a period of great success. This culminated in our promotion to Division 1 in 1974. Don was the coach of our 1975 Kentwell Cup team that won the elusive prize for the first time. Thereafter Don served as Club President for a number of years and in the following decades continued to ply his trade as a coach, most recently leading our 2012 Burke Cup premiership season.
In 1976 Don Loughry was awarded Life Membership but needless to say that was not the end of his service. For the next 50 years Don continued to support our great club and its people.
The contribution Don made to St Patrick’s Rugby Club goes beyond on-field success. He leaves behind a legacy of mateship and passion that transcends our club. Countless players from all generations of St Patrick’s Rugby Club speak glowingly of Don as a friend and a mentor. A person who selflessly served his local community so that other people could have a good time.
The establishment of the Black & Gold Supporters Group in 2015 was another initiative driven by Don and his mates. Yet another example of the Don’s commitment to the club and enduring club spirit.
At this time we extend our condolences and sympathies to the Loughry family. Whilst he was of course a great Clubman, he was also a much loved husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law and friend.
Thank you Don for everything you did for our Club. Quite simply, the club would not exist if it weren’t for your incredible efforts and decades of service. Our club has been blessed to have your service.
Funeral details will be posted once confirmed.
Valè, Don Loughry. Rest in Peace.
