Bloody Facebook Marketplace!
Does anyone else get a grand idea, purchase something, realise it wasn’t what you expected, buy it anyway, then turn it into a ripper!?
Well, we did!

The ‘trying to be quiet’ escape from the house before you wake the kids up to get to the gym!
Lots of banging and crashing, squinting and pausing… but then you make it and no one followed you!
Play on!
Eggs and Poo!
The kids are running this whole process including advertising. Not a bad little spiel here!

A morning in the garden! 🪴
Our old wicking beds were so effective and worked really well. We’ve struggled to grow things here and it’s been because of the soil and likely the big trees sucking up the moisture from anything growing near them.
Water beads off and our veggies never really did anything. We also didn’t know the quality of soil we inherited either!
So now, with these wicking beds, we know how much water they get and where the soil comes from.

We left our last house with a fully established, productive garden packed with a range of fruit trees, vegetable gardens and potato/pumpkin patches. We were definitely learning, but the productivity was high!
We soon realised that for how we wanted to live, more sustainably, we outgrew our 870 sq block and it was time to get more space.
We liked the idea of ‘Micro Farming’ where you create a sustainable way to maximise smaller plots of land up to 5acres for high yields. Which is why we ended up where we are now. This land allows us to ‘farm’ with smaller livestock and a large range of fruit trees with space to extend our gardens for vegetables. The best part is, that we are still in town with conveniences and aren’t tied to the farm every day like conventional farming.
We have found our middle ground that works for us and each day, we develop it further and learn new skills to harvest more.
This hut we made as a family allows our kids to learn business on a small and fun scale. Learning the work that goes into produce and caring for our living things. Then, selling to others so they get to enjoy it too :)

Coming along now! A bit more done today. Cut the fence, put the gate in and coated the signs!

What a day! Took the hut down to its spot. When we got there, we realised it would be against the fence and we couldn’t get around to the front. So, we concreted 3 pine posts in and now we can install a gate!
Which worked out well because the post that was there was eaten by termites…. 🐜 great!
Couple of lizards found along the way for the kids and finished the big day off with burgers! 🍔
Such a wholesome day together and making progress along the way

Jack and Billie have been looking after their chooks and really taking on the role of animal carers. As part of our adventures, we are leaning into our kids being entrepreneurs and learning how to run a business. It doesn’t matter how big or small it is, but the lessons along the way is where the gold is.
They love going to collect the eggs and feeding the chooks, now they have the next step of selling them. This hutch will live at the front of our property, where the kids will sell eggs, honey (when our bees are ready, and fruit/ veg seasonally.
They will add more things to sell as their creative minds grow and they will learn how money works as they go :)
For now, this is largely parent facilitated, as they get older, we will scale back and eventually, they will be off and running.
