🦁 Luke Kelly is locked in for 2027! 🦁

We are excited to announce that Luke Kelly has been appointed coach of our under 18.5's for season 2027.

A former premiership player and captain of our reserves, Luke returned to the club this year, initially as an assistant coach in our under 18.5's before stepping up to lead them as coach during the season.

Luke is a Sunbury Lion through and through and is driven to develop and produce our next wave of young up and coming stars.

On re-committing to the Lions, Luke said:

“It’s been a pleasure to be involved with helping bring back the 18.5 team this year.

It’s going to be exciting in the years to come seeing as though we have so much young talent coming through, With the still eligible players and some new recruits coming in we will be aiming for finals next year.

Our aim as coaches is to help every player improve in all aspects of their game, and to help young players transition from junior football into playing senior football.

With having 3 under 18.5 players playing senior football this year it shows that we are already on the right track and I am excited to see who will get the opportunity next season.”

Congratulations Luke, we look forward to seeing what 2027 brings for the 18s!

Lions 2027 planning started

The Sunbury Lions is saddened to hear of the passing of Greg, father of passed player Phil and Pop of Sammy, both greatly loved and respected at the Lions.During Phil's playing days, Greg was a great contributor with key speaking duties at various events, organised others such as Ted Whitten and generally was a sounding board behind the scenes to our administrators at the time. Greg was 93 years old and had been in ill health for a while now. Our thoughts are with Phil, Sam, Greg's wife Glenys and all of the Sewell clan. Greg's funeral is Friday 31st 11.00am at St Johns Mt Alexander Road Essendon then later at the Essendon Social Club.
