After being bullied, I no longer trusted ANYONE! I got really good at making friends, but the moment things became challenging, or there was a confrontation of sorts, I was OUT!
Like, fully OUT. Iâd stop spending time with them and not make an effort to continue the friendship.
Iâve lost A LOT of friends this way, even in my adult years.
Now having my own kids, I wanted to be a better role model for them when it came to maintaining quality friendships. Iâve learnt to fight the fear surrounding confrontations and pause rather than simply running away.
Sometimes I wonder about the friendships I wouldâve had if only I stuck around to overcome little squabbles etc.
How I learnt to TRUST friends again is covered in detail in my Beyond Bullying 1:1 Coaching Package.

Moving forward after bullying can be challenging for those that suffered badly during it. Often, kids are left with unprocessed trauma that can impact them as they move through highschool and into adulthood.
There is A LOT you can do when your child is being bullied, but the HARD work often begins afterwards. To ensure your child has strong self esteem, boundaries and can move forward LIKING who they are, these two things are important:
1. Inner work! Donât think because the behaviour has stopped that your child is now OKAY. They may not be and itâs important to provide avenues of support for them such as hiring a professional to help them process things. Journaling or even hiring an Anti-Bullying Coach can also provide quality support.
2. The second and most important thing is the emotional support from YOU at home. When your child is ready to talk about things, you need to be ready! Arm yourself with active listening strategies and stories from your own experience to help them make sense of whatâs happened to them. Go out for some cake just you and them and talk about it. Your child knowing that youâre there, even if you donât say much is really helpful. Show empathy (not sympathy) and let them know youâre available to them whenever they need it.
I cover this and more in detail in my Beyond Bullying 1:1 Coaching Package.
