Fun day out on the water chasing a few Aussie Bass and the world best by-catch! Old Saratoga are never a bad thing when you run into a couple! Ended up with 30-40 Bass which was good fun with the Old Boy, a lot of little ones but definitely found some decent ones for Lake Borumba

How good are these little pocket rockets of leader! The xbraid_australia -G leader comes in 30m spools with specific breaking strains so you can throw a heap into your pocket if you aren’t sure what size you’re going to need. Also being a thinner fluorocarbon than others on the market, don’t be afraid to go up in breaking strain!

Little recap on the gear that got us the 2nd place finish at Lake Awoonga! The fish were deep, around 30-35ft, so we needed to get to em quick and a jig head minnow was definitely the move in this situation.
We found we had to be super subtle during the entire retrieve as we noticed a few times that even the ‘click’ of the bail arm would completely spook the fish… we fished the new Samaki C12 701SMH as I think it’s one of the best rods on the market for this technique! It’s also one of the most versatile rods in the range, you can pretty much do anything from light Snapper fishing with plastics, to burning frogs in the fresh for Barra and Jack fishing up the creek 🪄
Using a spinning rod was crucial for getting this lighter head down quick! We could’ve went a heavier weight jig head but found we needed to almost hang the minnow in front of the fish to get a reaction.
Used a variety of jig heads, however it was the stinger that did the work, 90% of our fish were hooked with the YS81 #2 hanging off the chin. Stops the bait from rolling, but with the fish being shut down I think it only helped keeping a tight subtle action.
Already itching for the next one! We had massive fomo while watching everyone smash it at Mondy!

Well we got the job done on day 1!! We had an epic night on the water and so keen to get back out tonight and hopefully get into them again!
We are only 400grams in front of team Flukamundi and 3kgs in front of Gladstone Sports & Fly Fishing so it’s tight at the top!
