A club for all fly fishers, no matter the skill level. New members always welcome! Non members may attend 1-2 meetings before potentially joining.

We're happy to share some basic tips for visitors but locals are encouraged to come to a meeting / join up. Sunny Coast Fly Fishers - established in 1997 - is a club on the Sunshine Coast, QLD, Australia for all fly fishers, no matter what your skill level. Each month we meet up to chat about fishing locations, flies, trips away and all things fly fishing. We have club fishing trips regularly, some just for an afternoon and some for a weekend away, which give you a chance to share and learn tips and tricks out on the water. We aim to promote the amazing fly fishing oppurtunities we have here on the Sunshine Coast and we always welcome new members! To become a member feel free to come along to one of our monthly club meetings (held on the 2nd Thursday of the month at the Sands Tavern, Maroochydore from 5:30pm for optional dinner/drinks/socialising before the meeting starts 6:30pm sharp), or visit the website to find out more and complete the application form. Members also have access to our private Facebook group where a lot of great discussions are had and learning happens.

🎣 **BEHIND THE FLY - TIM, PART 2**

Tim is back for another round of **Behind the Fly**, this time with a few different questions about what he’s working on, what’s in his fishing world right now, and the lessons he’s picked up along the way.

**What are you currently trying to get better at?**
“Just recently, I have started trying to learn euro nymphing. I got interested after talking to a few people during a recent NZ fishing trip.”

**Be honest - what’s the current state of your fly storage area?**
“Absolute chaos.” 😂
Fly tying gear in a roll-top desk, plastic boxes everywhere, and rods, reels, fly boxes and waders filling a cupboard in the garage. A custom tying desk and rod/reel storage cabinet are apparently on the future project list.

**Any bad fly fishing habits?**
Leaving fly tying until the last minute, not practising casting enough before a big trip, and dropping the rod too early on the final forward cast after otherwise good false casts.

**What’s one benefit of joining the club?**
“Learning from others and socialising with some really nice and like-minded people. Generally people are very keen to share their knowledge and are very supportive.”

**Most memorable fish?**
An unexpected GT caught at the end of the day while waiting for the boat to pick him up at CXI.

And Tim’s advice for anyone starting out?

**Spend your money on tuition rather than expensive gear.** A good lesson or a good guide, especially somewhere unfamiliar, can often do more for your fishing than another expensive rod or reel.

Our members are encouraged to target these species between the last club meeting and the next.

What's your favourite fly for these fish?

And we now have a Fish of the Every Month - the elusive MULLET! We all want to catch one of these on fly so it's a constant goal! There's a TROPHY waiting for the winner too!

This months club meeting on Thursday 8th includes 🎣 FLY FISHING FOR CARP

At this month’s Sunny Coast Fly Fishers meeting, Max will be presenting on fly fishing for carp.

He’ll be sharing tips, techniques and what he’s learned about targeting carp on fly.
If carp are a species you’ve been curious about, or you just want to add something different to your fly fishing, this one should be well worth a listen.

Fish of the Month is bass and our club President is cleaning up with them! He caught 10 in one session at the dam the other day and close to that on other days.

Don't let him win again this mo th guys, get out there and catch some bass!

🎣 TONIGHT - SUNNY COAST FLY FISHERS CLUB MEETING

We’re back at Sands Tavern tonight for our monthly club meeting.

🍽️ Dinner and drinks from 5:30 pm
Come early, grab some food or a drink and catch up before we get started.

🕡 Meeting starts sharp at 6:30 pm UPSTAIRS (new spot, for tonight)

One of the main topics tonight will be a Flathead Panel Discussion, with members sharing their experience, ideas and tips for targeting flathead on fly - in time for this weekend's comp.

We’ll also cover plenty of other club updates, upcoming events and general club topics.

Members and guests are welcome.
