😳 That heart-sinking moment when Luke announces… “Let’s do a full mat today!” 😂

I have to be honest… I LOVE most of it, but there are a few exercises that really play games with my brain 🧠🤯 and challenge me in ways I can’t always explain!

What I’m sharing here is a WORK IN PROGRESS. It’s not about perfection, it’s about showing up, putting in the work, and being honest about where I’m at in my mat development. 💪🏼

Even after years of training, there’s always more to learn, refine and understand.

And sometimes, a little hands-on guidance makes all the difference when those tricky bits just won’t click! 🙌🏼

Because we’re all students of the method, no matter how long we’ve been practising. ❤️

Progress over perfection. Always.

I feel there needs to be a little more clarity around the ACTUAL work that goes on within a workout.

It’s not all about fancy sequences on the Reformer or the Mat.

The real hard work often happens in the small stuff.

It’s in the other pieces of equipment. The exercises that expose the weaknesses, challenge the body and make you work where you need it most — whether that’s a lack of power, strength, control or range.

This is where the system really starts to build the body.

Not just performing the exercises, but understanding WHY they are there and how each piece of equipment contributes to developing the whole body.

That’s the work.
That’s Contrology.

Introducing the teachers of the work.

Trained primarily through the lineage of Romana Kryzanowska and Cynthia Lochard, we are dedicated to teaching the original work of Joseph Pilates.

Working on the classical apparatus, we follow the sequencing, systems and principles of the method as it was originally taught — preserving the integrity, precision and purpose behind the work.

This is Contrology.

The original method.
The classical system.
The work as it was intended.

This week on the Cadillac 🤸‍♀️

We had a bit of a play with the Cadillac and went back to the source — looking through some archival photographs of Joe Pilates doing the work himself.

Then we had a go at recreating some of those shapes, movements and exercises… with varying degrees of success! 😂

There’s something pretty special about looking at the original work and trying to understand why Joe moved the body in these ways.

So here’s a few little recordings from our session this week.

Original work. Original apparatus. Still plenty to discover.

Contrology is the original name Joseph Pilates gave his method - long before it was renamed Pilates,

This week I was very happy when Luke announced we were getting back on the Reformer! 😂

There’s something so good about having a session with another teacher. It gets you out of your usual routine, out of your comfort zone and makes you work in a slightly different way.

And yes… I know the sequence is Corkscrew → Control Balance.

But we all know people are doom-scrolling 😂😂😂

So I’ve put the most eye-catching one first.

Control Balance ⬆️
Corkscrew ⬇️

Sometimes you have to work with the algorithm… while still honouring the method. 😉

Yay! I’m happy… I love it when I find an exercise I actually like on the Wunda Chair! 😂🙌

Apart from the small detail that I nearly fell off… 🙈😂

This one definitely needs a bit more practice, but that’s part of the fun. Finding the challenge, playing with the movement and slowly getting it to feel effortless.

The Wunda Chair came out again for this week’s session.
Playing with one of the variations of the Teaser alongside the Spine Stretch Forward — two very different exercises, but both asking for the same thing: a deeper understanding of the scoop. It’s a Gratz Wunda one spring on top, so the spring is strong. Fun but a huge challenge
