🔴State of Origin🔵
Origin is just around the corner, and I thought I'd throw my hand up and pick my squads.
I'm fully aware that these are not the teams that will be picked in the coming weeks, and I'm also aware that I'm not a state of Origin coach or selector, but it's a bit of fun 🤙
Points of note:
1. QLD spine reshuffle: I've named Kalyn Ponga to take the fullback spot. I've picked Tom Deardon to retain his spot at 6 despite the return of Munster, and I've named Reed Mahoney to debut at starting 9. This pushes Harry Grant (if fit) to the bench, and Ben Hunt out of the squad.
2. Blues see double at 7: I've named two halfbacks in the halves, with Cleary and Moses my go-to combination. Luai is an excellent number 6, but I think Moses has a more than competent running game to play the role, and has an excellent kicking game to boot. He should compliment Nathan Cleary nicely at 5/8, and could even play on the right if they deem it suitable.
3. Fermor earns his debut: I've named Beau Fermor on the left edge after yet another impressive start to the season. He's a hard worker and a try scorer, and despite the resurging form of Jeramiah Nanai in recent weeks, I'd back Fermor in for now.
4. Mighty Props: I simply couldn't resist naming the two in-form props of the NRL in the Blues starting side. Yes, you could argue that Terrell May isn't the impact player that Payne Haas is, but he's an insanely hard worker, and I believe you can create an excellent rotation with this pair, Isaah Yeo, and the powerful bench I've named.

OPINION: I'm okay with changing the Origin and international eligibility rules.
I believe if you are eligible to play for your state, you should be allowed to nominate for your state no matter the country you nominate for.
"Oh, but those Kiwi boys aren't as passionate about NSW as the Aussie boys are"... well take that up with the guys who pick the squad. If they're eligible, I don't believe their international team should then make them ineligible.
And also yes, I think players like Payne Haas changing their international allegiance to Samoa is fine too.
As a true blue Aussie, I'd love to see him stay in the Green and Gold, but if at the peak of his powers he chooses to represent his heritage, that's fine by me. All power to him.

Alex Ovechkin has broken a seemingly unbreakable record, scoring his 895th NHL goal.
This surpasses the great Wayne Gretzky who scored 894.
The crazy thing? They both did it 1487 games.
ALEX OVECHKIN IS THE GREATEST GOALSCORER IN NHL HISTORY! 🚨🚨🚨 #Gr8ness
Check out this insane crash by Sebastien Lajoux during the GT Endurance Cup event at 4H of Paul Ricard!
Impressively, the French driver climbed out of the car and walked away unharmed.

Tennis: Mens World Number 1 player Jannick Sinner has been banned for only 3 months after twice testing positive to a banned substance.
Sinner initially tested positive for Clostebol in March of last year, before testing positive again in a follow up test.
The Italian Ace was free to play whilst the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) conducted their investigation, with a ban of up to two years possible.
Finally, Sinner admitted that a team error caused him to test positive, struck a deal with WADA, and accepted a meagre three month ban.
Sinner had just won the Australian Open last month, and last year's US Open.
This ban means that he will miss no grand slams, with his May 4 return date falling in the same month as French Open.
Is this fair? Nick Kyrgios doesn't believe so, stating it is "dodgy as" and admitting other players agree.
So what do you think, is this suspicious in nature and timing? Or is a three month ban fair?

Hobart Hurricanes are BBL Champions for the first time!
The hero of the night is 23 year old Mitchell Owen, who scored the equal fastest century in BBL history, smacking his 100 runs from 39 balls.
Sydney Thunder set a formidable 182 to chase, but the Hurricanes caught them in 14.1 overs to win by 7 wickets.
What an amazing run-chase in an epic BBL final.
Congrats Hobart 💜
