Honestly, the biggest benefit of functional training happens outside the gym. It’s the strength that carries over into real life—the mobility to bend down easily, the stability to catch your balance, and the stamina to enjoy the weekend - doesn’t seem important now? It will in 20 years time.
My main goal when I’m 80 is to still be moving the same way I am.

“I’m too old for that” - “I’m getting older so it’s important I continue to strength and move my body”
“I’ll get fitter then I’ll join the gym” - “I’m going to follow the gyms programming so I can get fit”
“I don’t have time” - “I’ll get to bed earlier so I can have enough sleep to get up and train in the morning”
“I’ve got too many injuries, i won’t be able to do the workout” - “I’ll communicate with my coach to find the solution so I can keep progressing”

We’ve all heard “summer bodies are made in winter” this is true - except there wayyy more important things than just looking good for summer.
Routine in your training is important for mental health, progress in movement/injury prevention, strength gains most of all to keep everything moving.
I’ll speak for myself and say that when I don’t train my mental clarity is awful. My productivity goes down. My motivation to do other things goes down.
So, point is - when Winter is not being your friend when the alarm goes off in the morning…I guarantee you that if you give it the middle finger, get up anyway and get to training you’re day will roll on better.
The weather is not a reason to lose routine.
