We regrettably announce that Inters will not be entering a team into the SA Winter Baseball completion this season.

Today we play our final game of the season and more importantly we're playing Flinders Uni for the Halligan Gara Cup.

We have been unsuccessful in each of our attempts to beat Flinders Uni since the introduction of the Cup, but today could be our day.

The sun shining, the drinks will be cold, so head out to Golden Grove for a 2pm first pitch and support Inters to reclaim the Cup.

Inters 1 defeated by Bluesox 9.

After a week off last week due to Barry Nature's mother, we suited up to play a full game today. Blake Halligan was banned from the mound for today's game. We had a few new faces with a few players away keeping each other warm half way up a mountain.

Todd Symons started on the hill and wanted to show everyone how good he was at getting out of trouble. He didn't need any other fielders in the first innings and on the second he only needed Leroy to run deep into the hole and come out with his cannon to get the first out.

In the third innings our second baseman was able to make the first out and only the second out we'd get at a position that caused us troubles all day.

The Bluesox put one on the board in the 4th. In our half we manufactured runners on 1st and 2nd and luckily their catcher thought it'd be good to try to pick off our runner on first and bounced the ball more than a basketballer which sent the ball into right field and allowed us to tie the game up.

In the 5th they scored 8 on 5 hits, 3 walks and even stealing when they were 9-1 up. Hmmmm...

Todd's day came to an end and Rossco finished the innings for us. We weren't able to add anything in our half of the 5th and Barry's mum came back and made things "unsafe to play" and Paul made his best call of the day.

In a leadership over-throw reminiscent of the Gillard-Rudd battle, Troy Chandler took over the helm for today's game. There was some late running around trying to find an umpire and even a pen which meant he left the player's rego numbers off the team sheet, but eventually the game started.

Blake Halligan was given the pill and the defensive alignment took a different approach. Dave Taylor proved his worth in the first play of the game, managing to open his eyes up just enough to field the ball and record the first assist of the game.

The next pitch was one to forget about, mainly cause that ball will never be found again and it was quickly 1-0. A mix up of signals resulted in a HPB and two base hits before the third out was recorded meant we came to bat with the score 2-0.

Chuckles should have brought his K stamp as he needed to use it for 5 out of our first 6 outs.

With a runner on in the 4th, Wade "Woolshed" Moore showed us why he's a good catcher by allowing another runner on base. The 9-hole hitter plated the Angel's 4th run.

Leroy Urbina dented a ball to centre field and trotted to second to start things in our 4th. A hit from Wade Moore scored out first run and a hard ball to the right side lead to a fumble putting runners on 1st and 3rd with 1 out. Todd Symons drove one to centre field to add to the scoreboard and also allowed our Doug "Forest" Barker to move up to second.

Dave Taylor thought he'd recorded his first hit of the season but it was just a tunnel ball by their shortstop that lead to him reaching base. Blake Halligan helped himself out by doubling to left field and plating the tying run. Todd Dunstall grounded to their shortstop again and a fumble allowed us to take the lead. On the play, Troy Chandler was doing his best windmill impersonation waving Blake Halligan home from second and an errant throw allowed him to score and give us the lead 5-3.

Blake Halligan kept the Angels on the ground in the 5th and 6th innings, courtesy of a 6-pitcher in the 5th, before Troy Chandler pulling rank and yanking the pill from his hand.

Troy Chandler allowed a lead-off single who subsequently scored but managed to hold the Angels out for the rest of the game.

The final result was a rewarding 5-4, especially given the Angels won all the chocolates last year and touched us up in our first encounter.

We were successful playing for the inaugural Halligan Gara Cup. It was a hard fought game and both teams had their chances and we were lucky to hold on for the W

Inters and Flinders both played in the inaugural season of the SA Winter Baseball Association. Since that first game there has been a rich rivalry between the clubs. To commemorate that rivalry, both clubs have agree to create and play for the 'Fred Halligan Steve Gara Cup'. This cup has been named after legends of each club that were there in the early days and have been huge contributors to their respective clubs.

Get out to our first home game for the season at Golden Grove at 2pm to watch the teams vie for the inaugural winner of the cup.
