Swimming NSW is calling for assistance!

Swimming NSW is calling for volunteer timekeepers from all clubs, to assist with timekeeping at Sydney Open from Thursday 9 to Saturday 11 May.

Normally, SNSW uses a formula to determine which clubs require timekeeping representatives (based on number of individual event athletes from that club, among other things).

At Sydney Open however, this is particularly difficult given the demographic of the attendees. That is, few parents, and lots of interstate travellers. As such, we are calling for your help, and to spread the word.

Why time keep?

• Opportunity to get up close to some of the world’s best swimmers – see them in action from pool deck, the best seat in the house!

• You don’t need to be accredited as a timekeeper to help out

• See what it’s like from an athlete and TO’s point of view down on pool deck. It’s a great perspective o have and often a fun place to be!

We thank our officials – all of whom are volunteers - who assist us at all of our meets. Without them, the meets simply would not go ahead.

Things to note when timekeeping at SNSW meets:

• Report to the Chief Timekeeper on Lane 0 or, in their absence, the Technical Manager of the meet

• No mobile phone use when on pool deck (this includes no photography).

• Officials and timekeepers alike are not to make conversation with athletes, unless spoken to first

• Please note to the Chief Timekeeper when you’re planning to leave pool deck so appropriate cover can be arranged.

Please spread the word, and if you are able to assist, you must click here to add your availability. You can assist for as little as one half an hour, or as much as the entire session - totally up to you.

Another important step forward for the future of our club.
David Proud was welcomed to the Sutherland Leisure Centre pool deck for his first official day as Head Coach of Southern Performance Centre, and as Head Coach of SLC Aquadot.
Remarkably many parents noticed how well the kids appeared to listen this morning… perhaps just a coincidence as they return to school 🤷🏻‍♂️😂👏👏

It’s all smiles on the Gold Coast for Slc Aquadot swimmer Max Maurer, attending the Australian Age Championships.

His first trip to a national level competition, he is supported by Coach Lauren, and his family.

In his first day, competing in the 14y 100 Fly a PB in the morning wasn’t enough, with a second PB in the B Final, coming home in 14th place.

On day two - his pet event, 200m Fly - a PB in the morning saw him reach the final, where he dropped almost 2 seconds off his morning swim, finishing in 7th - an amazing achievement.

Keep following all the action on 9Now - Max is the clubs solo representative, with 400, 200, 100 Free, and 400IM still to come over the next four days.

Wishing Max the best of luck as he makes his way north to compete at the Swimming Australia National Age Championships on the Gold Coast next week.
This will be Max’s first national level competition and we are sure he will give it his absolute best, learn a huge amount from the experience and represent our club with pride.
Max will be joined by Coach Lauren.

NSW Junior State Championships… What a weekend!

Medals, Top 10’s, PB’s, smiles and tears… as a swimming club (and as swimming parents) it’s a roller coaster.

At such a young age, these kids haul themselves out of bed before most adults, train, go to school and the majority of them from the weekend just gone are yet to leave primary school… or are 6 weeks into high school.

We often forget how little they are, and they are to be admired for their commitment, focus, resilience. They are learning lessons for life.

As a club, we are incredibly proud of them all - for a few their effort and determination brought home some special medals and ribbons 👏👏👏 we will always celebrate amazing individual efforts, but… the extra special highlights we can all agree are when they come together for the relays - they always find an extra 10%, they are excited and have the most fun of all their races. This is where they become friends, and as a club - this is what we value above all else.

This is not possible without our team members and parents that make the trip out regardless of not having an individual event - even when parking is so bad you do the kid drop off, drive 5km away and grab the last minute train. The effort for that 35 seconds of swimming is humbling - and all with a smile.

Thank you parents, thank you kids, thank you coaches, thanks to the officials and

Big tick of approval 👏👏👏

Swimmers are a unique breed - we find joy in things that others will never understand

Such as new lane ropes.

Many thanks to Sutherland Shire Council Sutherland Shire Leisure Centres for the upgrade, we are pleased to report it is “less wavy”, “less bumpy” and “they are very pretty”.

😍😍😍
