Aiki-Kai Australia Sutherland Aikido Dojo

Over two days of TTC weekend had concluded this morning.
Hannan Janiv shihan from ACT was leading this weekend.
It was filled with energy and positive attritude wanting to study aikido by the members on the mat from Sydney and ACT.

BIG Congratulations to Nat,Glen 5th kyu and Dan 2nd kyu being awarded👏👏👏

Nat, Glen and Dan’s grading was excellent by showing understanding of techniques, proper receiving and fitness to complete entire grading period.

Also well done to Gus for being Uke for Dan😉

We have all been shocked and saddened by the news of the sudden passing of George Lo Shihan.

George passed at the time of our summer school that was honouring our aikido 'Pioneers', of which George sensei was one - in Australia and Malaysia.

George sensei's funeral will be held on Tuesday 20th January 2026 - details below. The family welcomes anyone that wishes to pay their respects to attend any parts of the funeral ceremonies.

The family has invited our aikido community to offer a tribute at the Chapel. (We will ask one or two people beforehand if they will say a few words on the day.) We will also display a collage of images at the chapel,

NSW will also have a memorial training day on Sunday 25th Jan - at the usual time of George sensei's long-running class (8:30am). At that memorial training, we will allow time for people to voice their personal tributes.

The last class in 2025 started with all the familiar faces with smile.
We had great energy through out the class. It concluded with Ippon jime.

As usual, we head out to Mike’s grill after woods for drinks and dinner.

Thank you everyone for warm support to keep Sutherland dojo going through out 2025. That’s what makes Sutherland great👍

Jikou sensei visited Sutherland dojo last night.
It was a class of full of energy, guidance and amazing precision of the techniques.
We appreciated his kindness and effort to come to Sutherland as it took him 1hr15mis in the traffic🚗 and had to cross 2 bridges 🏊🏻‍♂️

Jikou sensei, we are looking forward to having you again in Sutherland!!!

We held 10th anniversary class of Matthew’s passing on Tuesday. The time had gone past so quickly. Matthew raised Paul, Sean and myself at Sutherland dojo since we started Aikido. We were so proud that we could show Matthew our Dan gradings before he went. Paul did his Ni-Dan and Sean and I did shodan.
Guess what?!?! We got his thumbs up 👍 after the gradings!!!

We will remember him and he will always be in our heart💕
