Tambo Valley Field and Game Season off to a great start.

After a short winter break, the Tambo Valley Gun Club held its Annual General Meeting last month, welcoming a new committee and acknowledging the outgoing committee for their dedication, hard work and commitment to the club over the past 12 months.

We are delighted to welcome Jake Goedhart as our new President and look forward to another successful year of shooting at the creek under his leadership.

There is plenty to look forward to in the year ahead, with an exciting calendar of events planned. One of the highlights will be the Swifts Creek P-12 Clay Target Program, which gets underway next month.

Students will have the opportunity to take part in three weekly sessions throughout September. The program is designed to provide students with a practical, hands-on introduction to firearm safety while developing their confidence and skills in a safe and supervised environment. Most importantly, we hope they enjoy the experience and have plenty of fun along the way.

We are extremely grateful to Gunsport Trading, who have supported the program in the past, providing essential safety equipment, along with other goodies for students to take home. Their ongoing support has made a valuable contribution to the success of the program and is greatly appreciated.

We are also looking forward to a busy year of club events and once again appreciate the generous support we receive from local businesses and members of our community. Donations towards upcoming events and raffles are always warmly welcomed.

If you or your business are able to contribute, we would love to hear from you. Every contribution, big or small, helps us continue to run successful events and support the future of our club.

A great turnout for the first shoot of the season for the Tambo Valley Gun Club with 29 shooters participating in near perfect conditions. Junior participation has been increasing the last couple of years and it's great to see the juniors results and scores improving as they become more confident & experienced.

When Walter “Ted” Quick needed cancer treatment, the team at Bairnsdale Regional Health Service was there for him.

Now, Ted is giving back in a truly extraordinary way. 💙

The longtime East Gippsland local has donated $100,000 to BRHS cancer services as a heartfelt thank you to the people who cared for him, and as a gift that will help others across our region receive cancer care closer to home.

Ted spent many years living and working in Swifts Creek before moving to Paynesville. Following the sale of his Swifts Creek home, he chose to support the service that had played such an important part in his own cancer journey.

His generosity comes at a time when the need for strong local cancer care is significant. Avoidable cancer deaths in East Gippsland are higher than the Victorian rate — 33.8 per 100,000 people compared with 27.5 across Victoria.

And with Cancer Nurses Day tomorrow, Ted’s story is a beautiful reminder of the difference compassionate care can make, and of the lasting connections our cancer nurses build with the people and families they support.

Thank you, Ted, for giving back to the team that cared for you, and for helping make that same care possible for others.

You are a truly extraordinary person, Ted, and it is our privilege to care for you. 💙

Another Tambo Valley shoot was held on Sunday 22nd March to close out the season with 24 shooters in attendance. Numbers were slightly down on previous shoots due to a variety of factors.
