JA National Participation Manager Shane Alvisio, recently visited judo clubs on the way home from helping at the events in Melbourne (MIO & Oceania).

Shane first visited his old club, Kugatsu Judo Central Coast, commenting that it was nice to have many of his former club mates come along for the Wednesday evening open mat to be thrown, held down and choked. It is great to still feel like part of the welcoming group of judoka!

Further up the coast, Shane visited the Port Macquarie Judo Club and was hosted by local club Coach Andy Turner.

Located on the mid-North Coast, with a two hour drive either North or South to their neighbouring Judo Clubs.

Shane participated and taught some favourite skills to both the kids and adult sessions. So good to visit local clubs and meet the members.

The PortMacquarieJudo Club now has (former) Victorian Jake Bensted who has moved to the area for work. Shane said, what an asset Jake will be for the next 3 years, being an Olympian but more importantly a nice guy who has a history of volunteering for events and everything in between to help Judo progress.

Andy Turner who had not previously met Jake, said he was excited by what such an experienced judoka could bring to the Port Macquarie club.
