NEW CHAPTER FOR COACH ABU

Vostok-UNSW is pleased to announce that Abubakarr “Coach Abu” Kamara will take on the role of Head Coach of our Women’s Premier (WP) and Women’s Junior Premier (WJP) teams for 2027.

Abu is already a familiar and valued part of Vostok-UNSW, having coached our Men’s Premier (MP) and Men’s Junior Premier (MJP) teams during the 2026 PLV season. His coaching philosophy is centred on player development, accountability, respect, discipline and excellence — building strong teams while helping athletes grow both on and off the court.

Abu is already a familiar and valued part of Vostok-UNSW, having coached our Men’s Premier (MP) and Men’s Junior Premier (MJP) teams during the 2026 PLV season.

A former international beach volleyball player, Abu represented Sierra Leone at the 2017 Beach Volleyball World Championship in Vienna and the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia. Since moving into coaching in 2019, he has worked with a range of teams and developing athletes, including UNSW Women’s Reserve and Phoenix U23 Women.

His coaching philosophy is centred on player development, accountability, respect, discipline and excellence — building strong teams while helping athletes grow both on and off the court.

We’re excited to see Abu continue his journey with Vostok-UNSW and lead our WP and WJP programs into 2027.

We’re excited to welcome Rob Gaspersic as the new Head Coach of our Men’s Premier (MP) and Men’s Junior Premier (MJP) teams.

Rob brings an outstanding depth of volleyball experience as a player, referee and coach — an AVL champion and Australian representative at the World University Games, 2023 VNSW Referee of the Year, and a highly experienced NSW State Team coach with multiple Gold and Silver medals at AJVC and AYVC.

We’re looking forward to Rob bringing his experience, knowledge and passion for developing players to Vostok-UNSW as we build towards the 2027 PLV season.
