Sydney Half Marathon ✅

An amazing experience that a lot of work has gone into, extremely happy and proud of myself with a 25 minute PB.

It was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish (with cramps, unexpected stops at the start & going deaf from 15km 😂).

I knew I was prepared for every scenario, just by confidence through my preparation.

It’s not the main goal of the year but experiencing a race was well needed as it got the better of me at times during the race & during the week.

Just a few highlights from the race

1. Post race
2. Pre race
3. Official time
4. Cute sign
5. Doing it with one of my best mates made it more special

Sydney Half Marathon mock run

Plenty of learnings to take from the run, the sole purpose of the run was too familiarise myself with the route (as best as possible).

The second reason was, as it’s my first official “race” coming up in 2 weeks I wanted to go through the preparation process pre race aswell.

- Nutrition
- Hydration
- Public Transport (was delayed)
- Caffeine timing
- Energy gels

The first 8km took 54 minutes to complete, by far the worst start to a run I’ve had in months.

I’d a stitch for the first 5km, will never do leg day the day before a long run again, had to dodge a million people IYKYK & stress levels were off the charts.

I’m happy I did this run now, so hopefully the s**t KM’s don’t happen on race day.

Moral of the story let the KM’s take care of themselves & get on with it.

You either win or learn

Have a good weekend 👍🏻

Finishing 2023 out with a bang

Half Marathon ticked off the bucket list ✅

I originally had the goal of doing the Sydney half marathon in May, however the last few weeks of training I’ve felt like there was more in me.

Previous me would’ve taken the easy option, played it safe and thought of being “optimal” or scared I would’ve injured myself.

This was the mother of all mindset runs, no speed targets, just you are going to finish this run regardless of how you’re feeling.

Confidence through preparation, through curiosity and exploring how far I can push my body during training i’ve built up the confidence within myself to know my limits.

It’s not a world record run attempt, however it’s a massive milestone for me and that’s all that matters.

Doesn’t need to be a half marathon / marathon / 5k etc just do something that you feel is daunting.

The growth you get from challenging yourself, is something I’m addicted too at the moment and I can’t recommend it enough.

Looking forward to ticking off a few more goals next year in 2024.

One day or day one.

Marathon preps starts today.

Have a good Christmas and New Years 🎄

10km with the brother 🏃🏻‍♂️

Body is feeling great, considering that was my longest ever run to date. Definitely humbled me but I’m hungry now to get a faster time the next time I try the same distance 👊🏻

Holiday prep ✅

27th March: 99kg
24th July: 87.5kg

18 weeks of grafting & exploring how far I can push my body.

The aim was to keep as much muscle mass as possible while losing as much fat as possible.

Proud of the effort, better than last year. Plenty of areas to improve on for next time.

Shoutout to for helping me, with my work schedule I just wanted to be told what to do and take the stress off me. He’s a great coach & even better mate, highly recommend using his services.

Full day of eating (2150 calories)

Macros:

238g protein
200g carbs
48g fat

Note that my meals & macro’s have been chosen to fit into my work schedule / goals / maintain performance during training (legs today) & etc.

However I think all of these meals / snacks can be useful for anyone building muscle / losing fat.

Hope this helps someone 👍🏻

Story time

Today two pictures (pictures 1&3) came up in my memories on my photo album. These pictures were taken exactly 2 years ago, just finished college after getting a 1-1 in my degree.

I sacrificed my mental & physical health for essentially a piece of paper. Was it worth it? In the short term yes, but the long term definitely not.

If you don’t keep yourself in check you will lose your discipline, motivation and desire to train & eat well.

In life we’re going to have to juggle multiple different challenges at once whether that’s work, relationships, kids, friends, lack of sleep etc.

My point is when you’re trying to achieve goals for fat loss / muscle gain / gaining confidence etc through training, you’ll meet obstacles where you either quit or you keep going and push on regardless.

I’m not saying my physique is anything special by any means but sometimes you look back and realise how far you’ve come.

17th May 2021: 109kg
17th May 2023: 92.7kg

Hope this helps someone, have a good day 👍🏻
