🌺 Anzac Day 🌿 Rā o Ngā Hōia
"At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them."
Today we stand together to honour the legacy of our service men and women. We reflect with gratitude on their bravery and the freedoms we enjoy today because of their sacrifice.
Please note that there will be no classes today. We encourage our community to attend local services and share in this day of remembrance.
With Anzac Day also being observed this year on Monday 27th April, classes will resume Tuesday 28th April.

Black Belt Masters back at it 🔥
returns for his fourth Subversion appearance. After a disappointing loss last time out, he’s set on getting back into the win column. One of the most active Masters black belts on the circuit, there’s no slowing down for the Wollongong native as he looks to start the year strong.
makes his second appearance at Subversion and is hunting for his first win. We haven’t seen him since the Sub City Series, but he’s known for his tough, gritty style. He’ll pose some real problems for Grant as he aims to edge this one on March 14.

🇦🇺 A great day out at South Maroubra
Our Jiu Jitsu family traded the mats for the sand today to celebrate Australia Day. It was a perfect day down at South Maroubra beach—plenty of picanha on the BBQ, the classic sausage sizzle, and a few too many lamingtons.
We even managed a game of backyard cricket to keep the traditions alive. 🏏
It’s always great to catch up with everyone and their families outside of the gym. It’s these moments off the mats that really make our community what it is.

🥋 Kids end of year grading day🥋
What an unbelievable way to close out the year! We want to start by saying a huge thank you to our students, parents, and coaches for making this such a fantastic year.
Our kids have worked exceptionally hard all year, and that dedication was clear to see in the number of new belts awarded and the standard of the demonstratons. Every stripe and color earned was well-deserved!
We also want to recognize the many students who stepped up into competition this year. Whether you brought home a medal or just tested your skills for the first time, your bravery and growth have been a highlight of our season.
We can’t wait to get back to work and see what 2026 has in store for us!

⭐️ Charity Open Mat Wrap-Up ⭐️
What an incredible afternoon we had on December 13th! Our charity open mat wasn’t just about the sweat and the technical exchanges; it was about a community coming together for a cause much bigger than the mats.
We are beyond proud to announce that together, we raised a staggering $2,020 to be split between the McGrath Foundation and Tap Cancer Out.
Cancer is a heavy topic, but it’s one that touches us all. Looking around the room on Saturday, it was a powerful reminder that almost everyone in our BJJ family has been affected by cancer in one way or another—whether through personal battles or supporting friends and family. This session was our way of fighting for those who can’t and fighting back against a disease that takes too much.
The energy in the gym was electric. We had 38 practitioners on the mats, 16 tough rounds of rolling over 2.5 hours of non-stop action.
It was amazing to see our extended Ultimate Jiu-Jitsu family show up in force. A huge thank you to everyone who traveled from Rockdale, Erskinville, and Milperra to support the cause.
A Massive Thank You to Our Top Donors.
While every dollar counted, we want to give a special shout-out to those who went above and beyond:
• Ultimate Jiu-Jitsu: For the incredibly generous $500 donation.
• Michael Hoffman: One of our UJJ Black Belts who donated $200—and he did it on his birthday! Talk about leading by example.
• Anonymous: For their fantastic $150 contribution.

🥋 TAP CANCER OUT CHARITY OPEN MAT!
This Saturday, December 13th, marks Global Grappling Day, and the team at Ultimate Jiu-Jitsu Matraville will be hosting a special Charity Open Mat.
We are dedicating this event to supporting two incredible cancer charities through your generous donations.
