On August 10, 2025, Australia’s largest running event, City2Surf, once again lit up Sydney, attracting about 90,000 participants. Now in its fourth year, TW Runners reunited runners from across the globe to compete under the theme “Run for Taiwan”, showcasing the vitality and unity of the Taiwanese spirit to the world.

Founded in 2022 by Richard Lu, Founding President of the DCS NSW Chapter, TW Runners has upheld the values of health, friendship, and charity, rallying Taiwanese expatriates and international friends to participate in running events. This year’s team grew even larger, with members from Sydney, Canberra, Taiwan, and the United States, ranging in age from 4 to 60, demonstrating a cross-generational passion for running. OCAC Sydney Director May Chiang and Taiwanese-born Councillor Michelle Chuang also joined the race with great enthusiasm.
The 14-kilometer City2Surf course starts at Hyde Park in Sydney’s city center, follows the stunning Eastern Suburbs coastline, and finishes at the iconic Bondi Beach. During the race, TW Runners members wore Taiwan’s national flag and cheering slogans on their backs, their moving figures like banners in motion. This not only boosted team morale but also drew the attention of countless spectators and media, becoming a vibrant and distinctive highlight of the course.
One team member shared: “We’re not only pushing our personal limits – we’re also telling Taiwan’s story with every step, showing the world our passion and positive energy.” This year, TW Runners also embraced charity, with some members raising funds for Australian nonprofit organizations, seamlessly blending the spirit of sport with community care.
In an atmosphere filled with sunshine, sweat, rain, and laughter, all TW Runners members successfully completed the race, vowing to reunite next year to once again measure the world with their footsteps and speak up for Taiwan through action.
