|| Is the grass greener? ||

I get this question every year, so I thought I’d get ahead of it.

I’d also add that, particularly at a young age, optimising every aspect of an athlete’s coaching environment matters far less than fostering a genuine love for the game. That love is what will carry them through the difficult periods.

If playing with their friends in a slightly less ideal development environment is what keeps them enjoying basketball, that’s the option I’d choose.

|| SSV 12 and under state team selection ||

Congratulations to Harper Jozsa, Blaise Squires and Cleo D’Andrea for their selection to the SSV 12 and under girls state team.

We have a feeling this will just be one of the many things they get selected for in their basketball careers (we will also forget about Harpers footy selection because we want her to stay in basketball 😎)

Geelong, Nunawading, Altona, Dandenong. Thanks for coming from all corners to our first ever Mullum Mullum camp!

Was great to sell out the two courts we had access to and we will definitely be back again 💪🏼

Massive thanks to Matt from The Sports Clinic of Melbourne for coming down to teach our All-Girls camp participants a little bit about strength and conditioning using the force plates!

Each athlete who chose to do the test will be given a complimentary bit of information about their results within the coming weeks.

Keep an eye out for future collaborations across our program!

Maddy, Seb, Xav Mic’ed up 🎤

One of the differences about our two day camp is the format. Day one is a lot of skill and concept teaching that is pre planned around a set focus. Maybe it’s finishing, shooting, defence, etc.

Day two however is the gameplay day where almost immediately we jump into games to see what’s stuck. In between games we do skill blocks that relate to deficiencies we’ve seen in games. If things haven’t stuck we can do further scaffolding, if things have stuck we can teach harder concepts/skills.

All of this is facilitated by coaches like these three that are great role models, have great knowledge and are genuinely invested in giving athletes the best possible experience.

Best of luck in Bendigo to these legends as they each embark on their first u16 nationals experience.

Special shout out to Maddie Crozier, Maria Hanley, Tilly Hobba and Harry Lawson who were all emergencies for their respective country and metro state teams!
