So today is the end of Raise mentoring for 2022 - it has been a privilege to work with my mentees (both13/14 year olds) and see them grow in confidence, trust and being able to use their voice in meaningful ways. Not only did I get to know and understand them (a bit), and they me, but the real value of the program IMO is the opportunity for young people to build trust with an adult that isn't family and isn't an authority figure; to explore their strengths and give them some tools for navigating life. There were times when I wondered 'is this worth it?' 'am I connecting?' 'do they really care or is it just an excuse to get out of a period or two of class?'

This is the first year I have participated in this program and I can honestly say that it was worth every minute. Based on the feedback I received from my mentees they feel the same way.

For me, while the outcomes and audience are different in nature, the ability to explore strengths and tools to succeed is very similar to leadership coaching. Having the space to become the best version of yourself is really the fundamental principle behind any coaching program.
