PERSONAL BRANDING AND WHY YOU SHOULD CARE.
The question is no longer if you have a personal brand, but whether you choose to guide and cultivate the brand yourself or to let it be defined on your behalf.
Building your own personal brand correctly is important.

It allows you to effectively articulate the value you bring to the marketplace helping you to stand out in a sea of other contenders.

It makes you the logical choice for the role on offer as you distinguish your qualities over other various employment candidates.

It keeps you visible as more and more companies are using search engines and social media tools to seek out future employees.
So how do you build a personal brand?
Your personal brand is an amalgamation of multiple daily actions, as well as your connection to other people and organisations. It's about defining your strongest attributes and selling yourself confidently to companies and to your network.

As a female leader, my career like so many other women I know has been riddled with bias, bullying and inequality. Unfortunately, it's an all too familiar story.
As time went on in my career, I found my voice and I started to say enough is enough and speak up. Not only for me but for the next generation of women to come.
Then I was labelled emotional, bossy and too direct.
I saw it as being passionate, compelled to ensure the bias against women stops. And I will continue to speak up and if that makes you uncomfortable then help be part of the solution for meaningful change.

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN YOU (FINALLY) HAVE FULL ALIGNMENT IN YOUR CAREER?
When you tell your new boss you are pregnant only a month into a brand new role and it is ok.
This is exactly what happened to a recent client of mine. This client came to me completely exhausted and burnt out. She had been in a previous role that had just taken so much from her and was struggling to see what was next.
Through my private 1:1 intensives, we mapped out a clear career strategy and targeted her next best role that was completely aligned to her needs and values.
Within weeks she landed a new role, gained a $25k salary uplift, started in a new industry, and found a manager and company environment that supported her specific values.

WHEN WOMEN SUPPORT EACH OTHER INCREDIBLE THINGS HAPPEN.
....But what happens when they don't?
What I'm seeing, in my world are two things, either:
โ a lot of women going it alone, afraid to share their inner demons, not wanting to be a burden, and therefore not having the energy to be supportive to others; or
โ women tearing other successful women down, gossiping and criticising probably due to their own insecurities and frankly this is just not cool.
In day to day life, are we holding one another up? Are we celebrating one another's successes?
When we see another woman tapping into her own personal power and purpose, how do we feel about ourselves? Are these feelings keeping you from being truly supportive?
If you're suffering a scarcity in the fulfilment department, seeing others thriving can sometimes create a twinge of jealousy. Rather than tear someone down use these feelings as a reminder that it's time to search out more purpose in your life.
If you see a woman that is doing great things, celebrate them, and use them as inspiration for yourself, instead of as a means for self-judgment.
So how can you raise up the women in your network:

โ๏ธ don't let women undermine themselves
โ๏ธ give someone your time
โ๏ธ celebrate their achievements with them

When women support each other, great things happen. Together, we are smarter, funnier, more ambitious. We are braver and bolder.

If you are no longer enjoying your current role maybe it's time you considered what's next for you.

Another call today with a great client.
This client came to me initially for assistance in getting a new role. After working together she:
โ๏ธ found the role she was aiming for
โ๏ธ in her preferred industry
โ๏ธ with a nice salary increase on top
She was really excited about the new opportunity.
Five months in and the reality is much different. The role that she is being asked to do is very different from the position she was offered.
She has done all the right things. A few months in she spoke to her manager about the disconnect and was told she needs to learn the business. Fast forward another 3 months with still no change she approached her manager again in the hopes to realign her day to day work with the position she applied for only to be told there is still a lot of groundwork to do.
This is not as uncommon as you may think and is definitely not her fault at all. She reviewed the job description, researched the company and asked the right questions at the interview. She then took positive steps to realign her role when it was not as expected.
We jumped on a call to discuss how I could help her move forward as she is "miserable."
We spoke about her current reality and what she would like it to be.
In order to move forward, she needs confirmation on whether it is possible to move her current role towards the original job description. What are the conversations needed to get that clarity and how can she position them in a positive and constructive way.
If no change was possible then the decision would be made to look for another role. Once again how can she position herself in the market in a positive and constructive way as she applies for a new role.

Just jumped off a call today where we were discussing how to confidently market your skills for your next-level role.
This particular woman knows exactly what she wants next in her career but is struggling with how to position her skills and expertise confidently to obtain that next step in her career.
She has been at the same level for a while and is completely bored and unchallenged so she knows it's time for something new. She has had the opportunity in her current company to take on a more senior role temporarily while her manager was on extended leave. She really enjoyed working in that capacity, even receiving amazing feedback from senior management for the work she delivered.
This has confirmed for her she can do a more senior role however with no options available internally she has approached the market in the hope to secure her next-level role.
But it's not quite going according to plan......
When applying for roles she is not confidently showcasing herself as a more senior leader and as a result, interviews have not been coming freely. Those interviews she has attended have not resulted in a job offer as her lack of confidence in talking to any gaps in skills started raising concerns for the hiring manager.
As we dug a little deeper we also talked about the application process she is using and how this also needs a revamp as there is the opportunity for her to utilise her networks more effectively.
