It’s been a while since my last post - two years to be exact. I’ve been dealing with life and adapting to sudden changes.

After a long pause, I’m slowly beginning a reboot.

So what is happening in my aquatic world.

Now I’m focused more on education and training. Consulting to help others be the best teacher they can be. Helping swim schools serve their students in the best way possible, with industry standard best practice methods.

Occasionally jumping in the water to stay in touch, looking for my own professional development opportunities.

Teaching students with disabilities will always be my priority.

It’s taken a while for me to resolve to doing this solo, however here I am.

Moving forward, starting again.

I haven’t posted here for a while so I thought I’d bring you up to date with All-In Swim.

I’ve been teaching swimming for over 21 years and my husband Barry joined me 3 years ago. However we have swum together for fitness since before we got married - so for about 32 years.

We were slowly building our business as something to do in retirement - combining a passion with a way to earn some income. We trained together, we worked together, we planned.

Our Saturday routine consisted of me teaching a class at the local pool, then we swam together for an hour.

So on Saturday, 20 February we did this as normal.

After his accident on 21 February getting back into the pool is the one thing I struggle with. It was so entrenched in our lives, and the last thing we did together.

I’m sure I’ll be back one day, at this stage I just don’t know when.

That feeling when you’re swimming faster than you were 5 years ago - and coaching yourself 🤩

Long swim #2 for the week. Repeated Wednesday’s session, however managed all 3 sets today. Average pace quicker, average HR lower 💪

Next week, endurance 😳

Week 2 of the four week cycle - aerobic week. Pushing the heart rate up with some timed sets.

When you can only squeeze 2 x 1 hour sessions and 1 x 30 minute session into your week, you have to make them count.

Unfortunately my dicky shoulder let me down - sore after teaching kids last night.

Still, happy with the effort - I’ll see how it goes when I repeat the set on Saturday after a few days rest!

As life starts to get busy again, swimming time gets limited. My swims need to be structured into a four week cycle. This week is technique. Somewhat happy with the improvement in time in the same set this week.

To think 5 years ago I was averaging a 2:10/100m and was happy with that!

8 x 200 - 200 warm up; 200 drills; 200 paddles/buoy; 200 3/5/7 breathing; 200 4 x 50 25 easy/25 hard; 200 2 x 100 easy, med; 2 x 100 hard, easy; 200 cool down with fins

More good news about swimming

Swimming pools are one of the safest environments during COVID.

For all my swimming friends - Factual information is important. Engaged by Swimming Victoria, I was asked to fast-track a literature review on the relationship between Swimming Pools and COVID 19.

With the ever-changing COVID-19 environment, I believe it is the first of it’s kind in Australia.

Unfortunately, Swimming Pools and their operations are often a misunderstood environment. Through lack of knowledge and incorrect assumptions, decisions are being made that negatively impact a highly regulated industry.

But more than anything, the review provided fascinating information. Things I am sure the industry has known all along. As international scientific evidence has acknowledged, pools are one of the safe environments. To read the full review, go to: https://bit.ly/32IUicb

Let’s get the Aquatic Industry swimming again, and get all swimming pools reopened.

A change of scenery today. Headed indoors to a 25m pool. One per lane despite the 3 person limit. Repeat of an aerobic set from 3 June, with a nice improvement on pace in the 200 warm up and 600 effort - I’m sure not all due to the shorter pool!

A bit grey and wet 🌨 today, backing up yesterday’s time trial with a mix of technique and aerobic change of pace sets. It was so warm in the water 😊 Day 9 done.
