Movement is a skill.

Running, balancing, catching, climbing, joining a game or learning a new sport all ask a child to process information, plan a response and practise it over time.

For some children, the usual way these skills are taught simply isn’t the best fit. A fast group instruction, a new environment or a complex sequence can create barriers before a child has had the chance to show what they can do.

That’s why we adapt.

At Drift Health, we break skills into meaningful, achievable steps and tailor how we teach them to your child’s learning and communication style. We use clear cues, play, repetition and the right level of challenge to build movement literacy: the confidence, competence and motivation to keep moving.

Because when your child experiences progress in movement, that confidence can travel with them beyond just the therapy session - but into school, sport, play and everyday life.

Every child deserves the opportunity to build the skills to thrive.

Regulation is not one-size-fits-all.

In every session, our therapists pay attention to the signals a child is giving us - because those signals help guide how we support them.

That can include verbal and non-verbal communication, body language, energy levels, responses to activities and stimming. These are not simply behaviours to correct; they can be meaningful cues about what a child needs in that moment.

Are they becoming overwhelmed? Do they need a movement break, less demand or more predictability? Or do they need a little more input and challenge to feel ready to engage?

We use what we observe to adapt the drills, therapy and exercise in real time. The goal is to find the right balance: enough support to feel safe, and enough challenge to keep learning and developing.

That responsive approach helps sessions stay purposeful, respectful and better matched to the child in front of us.

Every child deserves the chance to be a kid.
To play, move, join in at school and sport, and thrive.

At Drift Health, our Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists help children build the movement skills and physical foundations that support confidence, capability and independence.

For the past eight years, we’ve led with connection first:

Connection → Regulation → Engagement → Exercise

Because when a child feels safe, understood and engaged, therapy can become something different: play, sport and movement that feels enjoyable.

Our goal is simple: to help children build a positive, lasting relationship with movement, so they can participate more fully in the life they want to live.
