Double Donations Today ONLY!
I wanted to share my upcoming challenge of riding 1186km across The Nullarbor Plain in honour of my friend Lucy (5) and the 86 kids diagnosed with cancer each month.
Today is Double Donation Day, so it’s a great time to contribute or share my journey with others who may be able to help. Follow my progress on and keep an eye out for any media coverage. Please donate through my link below. All donations are tax deductible.
Contributions will directly support CCIA’s research efforts for safer, more targeted treatments for children with cancer.
Double Donations are limited, so donate early if you can.
‘’It is not if, it is when’’ they will find the cure.
Thank you for your support!

With thanks to The Pyrmont Landcare group, The City of Sydney Council and the wonderful Mary Mortimer, Maybanke Reserve has had a face-lift with new tables, benches and AstroTurf, and creating an accessible path into the reserve from the centre for families with strollers and people in wheelchairs. Some little hands from SDN pre-school were amongst some of the people who planted new trees in the area.
As of today, the bottom courts at The Maybanke Centre will be open from Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm which will enable wheelchair and pram access to the Reserve.
Please all enjoy this new space!

First attempt to make a video - this one is short but we need to check how the sound, video + subtitles play via Facebook sharing. Please give feedback in the comments!

Hi all,
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Maybanke is closed, effective today. No playgroup sessions will run until City of Sydney re-opens for normal activities. Maybanke is now closed to the public and no access is permitted.
I (Amanda) am working to create "online playgroup" programming, along the lines of what Playgroup SA is doing : https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2020-03-24/coronavirus-shutdown-sees-virtual-playgroup-membership-skyrocket/12081348?pfmredir=sm
The Facebook group in the above article, Playgroup at Home, is accepting members from outside of South Australia. In the "request to join" question asking if you live in SA, just note that you live in Sydney + why you want to join (activities for your child/ren, support for your young family, etc). Let me know if you have any issues joining, but it has gone smoothly so far.
----------
To provide some of our usual playgroup storytime + singing activities, we (Amanda + students Anusaya and Sita + the entire Pyrmont Playtime and MustardSeed Playtime teams) have been working hard to find solutions that can accommodate as many families as possible. We understand that privacy and security is of great concern, and intend to provide the content in a range of formats to allow families to choose the method/s that suit them best.
Please read the comments below to see the options we are currently considering/actively working on.
All feedback, suggestions, constructive criticism, questions, and concerns are welcome. Contact Amanda privately via phone 0448048547 (call or SMS is fine), email at [email protected] , private Facebook message, or in comments/posts here.
Please take care of yourselves and your loved ones.

Virtual playgroup membership skyrockets in wake of coronavirus shutdown
An online playgroup has attracted thousands of members in less than a week as parents do their best to maintain a sense of routine for children during the coronavirus crisis.

Hi everyone,
The last 3 weeks have been terrifically successful - bees, wasps, mozzies, rain and a bump on Amanda’s head notwithstanding. Up to 30-40 children have enjoyed the activities most days, including messy play, ball pit, junior trampolines, soft-fall climbing, painting, beading, basketball and general ball skills, board games and books.
A special thanks to those who helped get Maybanke ready for the school holiday program, particularly on the horribly hot Saturday. The shed was cleaned out and organized, vast numbers of leaves raked up and taken away, the kitchen scrubbed, cupboards organized, board games checked, outdoor furniture cleaned, huge quantities of stuff transported from the Harris Centre and PCC.
Having moved all the equipment to Maybanke from the Harris Centre and PCC, we now have to move most of it back again. (We hope that the Pyrmont playgroup will continue at Maybanke for the time being, so some equipment can stay there.)
We are planning 2 moves:
- Saturday from 12 noon – packing the Pyrmont Cares truck to return stuff to the Harris Centre; then packing PCC equipment into the truck in readiness for delivery to PCC on Tuesday morning, as it won’t be open until then.
- Wednesday 8.30am – unloading equipment from the truck to PCC.
We need volunteers for both these times – at least 6 people at each end to load and unload the truck today, and then people to unload the truck at PCC on Wednesday. Others are needed to carry the equipment down to the truck.
All help is appreciated - children are welcome, of course!
