⢠Are you hypermobile? It is commonly known as being double-jointed but what it really means is that you have more than typical range in your joints due to your ligaments having increased laxity/ looseness. It is most noticeable in the knees, elbows and fingers.
⢠There is a spectrum with hypermobility - You may just have one or two areas of hypermobility, or you may have general hypermobility affecting most of your joints (like myself) or less commonly, you may have a hypermobility syndrome which affects other parts of your health such as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome
⢠If youâve heard me tell you to unlock your knees or elbows in classes then youâve most likely got some level of hypermobility.
⢠Due to the increased range of movement in these joints, there is a greater risk of some injuries such as dislocation and ligamentous injuries (such as ACL tears) so it is important to maintain strength around these joints to protect them.
⢠One of the reasons I love Pilates so much is I find it a great low impact way to maintain my strength and prevent issues relating to being hypermobile đComment below if you are hypermobile too!

Kurve Pilates is Jet-Setting!
By now I have had the chance to tell most of you, but for those who I haven't seen in recent weeks, my husband and I are excitedly heading off to Europe to travel for 4 months! It has been something we have been hoping to do for many years and so are taking the opportunity to do so whilst we can! This does mean that the last classes before I depart will be next week (week commencing 16/05/2022). It would be fabulous to see you all in classes next week to have a chance to say goodbye before my return in October!
Whilst I am away, my friend and colleague Nicola Simpson will be taking the classes on a Tuesday evening at Willoughby Park. She will also be reaching out to the seniors class to discuss ongoing timing for this class. Classes are for all abilities (suitable for beginners!) and can be tailored for any injuries. The focus is on gentle exercises to keep you strong where it counts.
