Dear Bareena Park Court Confessor,
Last week, one of our doubles opponents dropped the second ball from their pocket onto the court during a rally. Not once, but TWICE. While they clearly need a bigger pocket, do they also need advice on whether this is a violation?
- Curious

Dear Curious,
The first time a pocket ball breaks free is considered an innocent mistake. A "let" is called and the point replayed. However, tennis authorities consider a second drop a deliberate hindrance and the opposing player wins the point.
In short: one ball drop is an accident. Two is a strategy.

Did you know roughly 330 million tennis balls are made worldwide each year, and most of these eventually end up in landfill?

In good news for the Club's sustainability considerations, BPTC was just accepted into the TreadLightly program.

In conjunction with Tennis NSW and Tennis Australia, TreadLightly supports clubs to collect and recycle used tennis balls in a practical way that helps reduce landfill.

Check out how TreadLightly works here >> https://treadlightly.asga.com.au/

Tread Lightly – Together we can step into a better future TreadLightly is a national recycling initiative that takes unwanted sport and active lifestyle footwear and responsibly recycles it to give it new life.

Big congratulations to the Club's evening comp winners, who battled it out under the lights at Bareena Park Tennis Club on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights!

These comps are much more than the final score. They’re about turning up, playing well, respecting the game and each other, having a laugh and showing great sportsmanship, the T2 winners brought plenty of all of that to the court.

Congratulations to:

🏆 Monday night: Al L and Annelies H

🏆 Wednesday night: James C and Dave W

🏆 Thursday night: Steve B and Mark/Jack F

Your enthusiasm, competitive spirit and commitment helped make the evening comps such a fun part of the week. 🎾

A big thank you to everyone who played throughout the term.

Whether you were chasing points, a better backhand, or fun under the lights, you all helped make the comps a great success! ⭐

A bird's eye view of Bareena Park Tennis Club 🎾🌿

From above, you can see our beautiful courts tucked into a peaceful, green setting.

But the best thing about Bareena isn't the view. It's the people who turn up to play, compete, socialise, volunteer, cheer each other on and make the Club a great place to be.

There’s something special about full courts, good rallies, and great company on cool, quiet evenings at the club. From the first serve to the last point, our night comps continue to deliver plenty of laughs, exciting play, and competitive spirit.

A huge thank you to everyone who comes down each week to make Bareena Park such a welcoming and vibrant place to play.

Nights like this are what community tennis is all about! 💚💛

The Club held its annual 2026 Daphne Jeffery Ladies Invitational Tournament on Tuesday, May 19.

Daphne Jeffery was a keen player and long-time Bareena Park member who donated the perpetual plate as a prize for players who did not typically win other Club events.

Many ladies from the Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday morning sessions participated in the event. Despite persistent rain the night before and some early drizzle, the new courts recovered beautifully, allowing 16 players to enjoy a competitive, fun, and friendly morning of tennis.

Each participant played three sets of eight games with different partners, and the total games won determined the final results.

The competition was incredibly close, with just four points separating the top four players!

It was a tale of two Paulas, with Paula M winning the first division and Paula L taking out the second division. Paula L was declared overall winner on handicap, while Paula M graciously acknowledged her recent trophy success.

Both winners credited their strong performances to the quality of their partners' play.

Congratulations to both ladies!

The morning also welcomed several first-time participants to the Invitational, adding to the great atmosphere and camaraderie, which was further enhanced by delicious cakes served with the assistance of Carmella.

Many of the morning’s competitors have significantly raised their standards of play and look set to be strong contenders in the upcoming 2026 Ladies Doubles Championships!
