Damo is back and ready for the Winternationals!

After suffering chassis damage at the Nitro Champs, Damien Harris' RAI dragster has been expertly repaired by Newbs and Ziggy. The team returned to the track at Sydney Dragway yesterday to put the repaired machine through its paces with a couple of test hits, confirming everything is on track ahead of Australia's biggest drag racing event.

The Winternationals is fast approaching, with only a week to go before the Atlantic Oils RAI team unleashes its nitro fury once again in the NDRC Australian Top Fuel Championship. The team is deep in final preparations for the biggest event on the calendar, and there is more good news with Damien Harris’ dragster ready to rip and tear once again after the chassis damage sustained at the Nitro Champs was expertly repaired by Newbs and Ziggy. 💪

Legendary American drag racing commentator Alan Reinhart took a fancy to the unique winged KFR- Kuchel Family Racing Modified dragster and had to inspect it up close at the Nitro Champs. Kingsley explained to Alan alongside Steve, owner of Atlantic Oils, his inspiration for the design heralded from when the hot-rodders of the 60s and 70s were transitioning into drag racing with some wild custom body designs .

The idea for Sweet Sensation's enclosed body came from Ed Roth's Yellow Fang Top Fuel Dragster with the shape of the wings coming from a '59 Chev.

At his home track, Sydney Dragway, Santo Rapisarda was recognised for his contributions to the sport and his induction into the Motorsport Hall of Fame. All in memory of Louie Rapisarda, Santo and the Rapisarda Autosport International team have helped develop and shape the foundations of drag racing in this country. It was fitting to have this recognised at Santo's home track and Atlantic Oils was proud to be there with them.

Wayne Newby walk away with a runner-up finish at the 2026 Nitro Champs. Some issues past half track gave Phil Lamattina the edge at the finish line. Congratulations to Phil and the team.

Shane Olive also had some troubles in the B-Final with a run that did not demonstrate the performances the team had over the weekend.

The Rapisarda Autosport International team will take away what they can from this weekend to ensure that the next round, the Winternationals in June, will be successful for the team.

Round 2 saw Newby and Olive with two very strong passes to get round wins. That also puts Newby into the A-Final!

Unfortunately after the incredible drive job by Damien Harris to save his car after getting out of shape in Round 1, the car suffered damage and Damien will not be competing the rest of the event.

Let's hope Newby and Santino can bring home gold in the A-Final.

Wayne Newby with a 3.729 to go to the top spot! Shane Olive with a 3.794, a PB, to go third in qualifying for this weekend! Harris has some issues around half track, and his 3.767 from Q1 puts him in the second spot going into racing tomorrow.

Q1 saw Harris and Olive get in two strong passes to get a number up on the board, with Harris going to the top spot so far in qualifying. Newby had some issues and will come out in Q2 to try and put a number up on the board.

Nathaniel has lost in round one of Modified here at the Nitro Champs after a great day of racing for him yesterday. That mean all eyes will be on Mason for the KFR- Kuchel Family Racing!
