I was sorting through my files and found this reel of demos and outtakes from when we made the 'Power of Wing Chun' web series for the International Wing Chun Academy in 2016.
I had such a great time making this series with Simon, Michael, Ardy, and Kelvin. I can't believe it's been almost eight years. I'd love to make another series like this someday.

Today would have been my father's 80th birthday. Happy birthday, Sifu Jim.

Hong Kong, 2006.
YouTuber Laurie Shaw recently challenged himself to seven days of Wing Chun training before testing his skills in a free sparring session.
As Wing Chun is a skill-based martial art emphasising efficient biomechanics, it can take time to learn and apply its concepts - especially since many involve undoing years of bad habits, like poor posture.
I was impressed with how quickly Laurie took to these concepts on day one, so it was a shame to see him lose some confidence and momentum after sustaining a minor injury halfway through the challenge. While his final result showed some progress, it also demonstrated that it takes more than just a few days of training to learn how to defend yourself under pressure.
Still, this was an interesting experiment, and I would be keen to see others attempt this challenge in future.
Thanks to Laurie for choosing us for this challenge and to all the Academy trainers who helped make it happen 🙏

Thank you so much to everyone who supported the Sifu Jim Fung Memorial Fund for Cancer Research and helped it reach its third milestone this year.
I came away from QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute hopeful that we may soon see an effective treatment for Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC), an aggressive cancer of which my father died in 2007 and affects one in ten people from Southern China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
I'm inspired and motivated to help the Memorial Fund raise another donation to support QIMR Berghofer's vital work.
Earlier this year, I filmed a short part for Marc Fennell and ABC Australia's new docuseries, 'Stuff the British Stole', which premieres on ABC TV and ABC iview next Tuesday 1 November 2022 at 8pm. Check out the trailer below!

Another week in lockdown! It's frustrating and challenging, but hopefully this means that we can get back to training next Saturday.
Statistically, we've had a good run in NSW so far, and I sympathise with those interstate and overseas who've had it tougher than us. Stay strong, and we'll get through this! ✊
