What a fantastic sunny winter’s morning to be outside for a run, jog, walk or taking time out from participating to volunteer and give back to our wonderful parkrun community.

Winter Arrives at parkrun!

Winter officially arrived at parkrun this morning, with a chilly 8°C greeting the 176 participants who joined us for our first winter event of 2026. Despite the long weekend and the competing pull of Saturday morning sport and other family commitments, our community once again turned up to make the morning a success.

This week, rather than focusing on times and placings, we'd like to shine the spotlight on the people who made today's event possible — our volunteers.

A huge thank you to
Steven (Event Day Course Check), Bernadette (First Timers Welcome), Gerhard (Timekeeper), Justin (Finish Tokens), Kai (Finish Token Support), Jacob, Adriel and Addison (Barcode Scanning), Sigrid, Ann, Ian, Melynda and Cathy (Marshals), Rosa (Tail Walker), Linwood and Luciana (Photographers), Neve (Token Sorting), Peter (Pre-event Setup), Rob (Post-event Close Down) and Michelle (Volunteer Coordinator).

Every Saturday, parkrun only happens because people choose to volunteer. Whether it's welcoming first timers, scanning barcodes, marshalling the course or helping behind the scenes, every role is important and every volunteer makes a difference. If you've ever wondered what volunteering involves, we'd love to have you join us in the coming weeks.

Future volunteer opportunities can be found here:

While we understand that many regular parkrunners have sporting and family commitments on Saturday mornings, we'd love to see some fresh faces on the roster over the coming weeks. Most volunteer roles are straightforward, fully supported and still leave plenty of time to enjoy being part of the event.

A special thank you goes to Lucy and Linwood, whose photographs capture so many smiles, milestones and memorable moments each week. Their fantastic photos will be available to view on Facebook later today or over the weekend, and we're incredibly grateful for the time they dedicate to documenting our community.

Today's event also included some wonderful milestone celebrations:

🎉 Jo W completed her 100th parkrun
🎉 Patrick R completed his 25th parkrun
🎉 Paul D completed his 25th parkrun

Congratulations to all three on their achievements and thank you for choosing to celebrate them with us.

Some fun facts from today's event:

• 176 participants crossed the finish line.
• 23 participants achieved a Personal Best.
• 5 visitors joined us for the first time.
• Participants ranged from the under-10 category through to the 80–84 age group, demonstrating that parkrun truly is for everyone.
• The busiest age category today was 45–49 years, with 21 participants.
• Our average participant age was 42 years.
• 35 participants were recorded as "Unknown" — don't forget your barcode next week!

Thank you to everyone who participated this morning. Whether you walked, jogged, volunteered, cheered, took photographs, pushed a pram, encouraged a friend or simply enjoyed being part of the community, you helped create another fantastic Saturday morning.

We look forward to welcoming you all back next week.

Thank you, Menai parkrun family 🧡

Your incredible response means our roster is healthy and we are good to go this Saturday.
We are updating the roster now and are grateful to everyone who stepped up.
We still want to encourage those who haven't volunteered yet (or haven't in a long time) to jump in for future weeks.
It is a great way to support the community.

To help you plan ahead, here is our current roster for the next few weeks https://www.parkrun.com.au/menai/futureroster/.

As you can see, we have plenty of future vacancies waiting for a high-vis hero!

Just a quick safety reminder for this weekend:

Marshals: Must be 18 or older, as these spots are located outside Menai Park.
Under 11s: Must be accompanied by a responsible adult along the course for the entire run or walk.

See you all Saturday! 👋
