Some fantastic scenes from the recent J/70 Victorian Championships with an impressive 23-boat fleet raced out of the Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron

Ensign Yachts’ own GM Sean Rush was down for the regatta competing on board ‘Jet’, placing 9th for the event. “It was a really fantastic atmosphere” said Sean, “There was great rivalry on the race course and a good mixture of conditions. I’m looking forward to getting involved in the next regatta”.

Congratulations to all competitors and place getters, and a big thanks to Blairgowrie for putting on the event.

Rise of the J/99's

When the fleet of 65 yachts set off for the Gold Coast in the 2025 Noakes Sydney Gold Coast (NSGCYR) tomorrow (26 July), there will be a race within a race taking place. Of the 14 Double Handed yachts entered in the 384 nautical mile race, one yacht design will be out in force – J/99s, of which six are entered in the Double Handed Division.

These are Balancing Act (Tony Craner and Rick Plain), Blue Planet (Chris O’Neill and Jason Keg), Jupiter (Ian Smith and John Cross), Rum Rebellion (Shane Connelly and Tony Sutton), The Gaffer (Rob Frayne and Richard Dumas) and Verite (Paul Beath and Stephen Prince).

J/70 Test Sail & Info Day
Sail the J/70 – Saturday, 19 July at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron.

This Saturday 19 July the J/70 AUS Class Association are offering a unique opportunity to experience sailing the J/70, one of the most popular one-design keelboats in the world. With over 1,900 boats launched globally, the J/70 has built strong fleets across North and South America, the UK, Europe, and an expanding presence in Australia.

Celebrated for its versatility, the J/70 appeals to a wide range of ages and skill levels. The J/70 offers the highest level of competition and yet the boat can be successfully crewed by a three generation team.

0900 - 1030hrs | Test Sail (1st session)

The cruise-equipped J/40 takes 2nd place ORC3 at the Block Island Race Week! 🥈

Commenting on their silver medal performance, Jeff Johnstone, J/Boats’ president, on the J/40 DOV explained :
“We launched our J/40 a few weeks before Block Island Race Week and had a great result out of the box at New York Yacht Club’s Annual Regatta (3rd in class). We then decided to jump into the deep end and compete on the ORC North Americans circle at Block Island Race Week, and see how an unmodified, cruise-equipped J/40 (with two heads, bow roller, windlass, roller furling, swim platform, etc.) could do against the top ORC boats. 10 races over 5 days, including 9 short windward-leewards, were both fun and a great test, and we couldn’t be happier with the 2nd place result. Our hats are off to Robin Team and his crew aboard the J/122 TEAMWORK, who sailed a great event and are the well-deserved ORC North American champions!”
