Putney Bowling Club
Leasing
Council went to tender for the future leasing arrangement for the bowling club.
At the March 2026 Meeting, Council resolved to:
• decline to accept any tenders for the lease due to the lack of demonstrated financial capability and experience,
• agree to enter into negotiations with any person (whether or not the person was a tenderer) with a view to entering into a contract for the lease.
(See below for the full resolution made by Council)
Since March, Council Officers have consolidated a list of suitable parties that may be interested in the future lease for the site. Officers are working to finalise the direct negotiation framework and documentation to ensure procurement and probity principles are observed throughout negotiations.
These negotiations will commence imminently and Council will be informed of the preferred proponent once identified.
Vandalism
Separately, Putney Bowling Club has been the target of extensive vandalism by a group or groups of youths. These groups have used bricks from the previous bowling greens to smash windows throughout the building.
Police have been informed of the issue.
Council has boarded up several windows to make the site secure.
Council’s roaming security contractor has increased its presence on site and has been regularly attending the site proactively and also chasing off these groups as they are found.
In addition, Council has procured temporary CCTV equipment to monitor the site and raise alarms of any presence. The cameras are due to be installed in coming days. Footage will be provided to police to identify vandals if caught on camera.

No wonder they had to block the windows. All windows up & downstairs were smashed 🤦♂️

The memories live on forever ……
31/10/2025
Today marks the second anniversary closure of our beloved and cherished Putney Tennyson Bowling & Community Club. Many great memories, legends and community activities since the club opened back in 1971. Today after two years the club house still sits there without any further notification from City of Ryde Council on its future and use. Like many other community facilities within the Ryde LGA time just lapses with very little information or action going forward by Council Management to the community of Ryde. Let's hope in 2026 we see some proactive progress in the community. Some of the characters of PTBC that have passed but never forgotten.
