FEELING CONFUSED ABOUT NDIS THRIVING KIDS CHANGES?

Many parents are asking questions about the NDIS Thriving Kids reforms right now. We will be posting regularly with small snippets of helpful information and tips to help parents navigate the overwhelm.

If you're feeling confused or unsure, you're not alone. The changes are still being rolled out, and information is continuing to evolve.

*The most important thing you can do right now is keep moving forward with the supports your child needs and ask questions when you need help.*

💙 You don't have to navigate this alone.

If your child or young person has an NDIS plan and you feel overwhelmed on how to best plan their supports, we can help. One of our experienced Psychologists can talk to you about your child's needs and help you understand the best allied health supports that can help you reach your child's goals.

🎉 FUN FRIDAY 🎉

We are exploring favourite toys and games our team loves using in therapy sessions. 😊

Aya likes the trainset because it is so versatile in so many stages of therapy. For early in the therapy journey, building the train tracks allow for parallel play to build connection, without intruding into the child's play process.

Building together and playing co-operatively allows for a safe way to engage together. When there are problems, we can find solutions together. Sometimes when things don't go to plan, it allows for a safe space to co-regulate.

Using the trainset in sessions allows for connection through play, as well as sharing and achieving the same goals.

If you would like to find out more about how we can support your child through play and building connections, please feel free to reach out at:

THERAPY THURSDAY

This week we’re sharing a little about why our team loves working with children and teens. 😊

Our team believes that warm relationships, trust, creativity, and connection are such important parts of helping children, teenagers, and families feel safe and supported.

We love creating a practice environment that feels welcoming, relaxed, and genuinely caring for everyone who walks through our doors.

Team Tuesday: Meet James Mackay

James is our Administration and IT Leader and plays a huge role in supporting our team behind the scenes. From troubleshooting technology to helping improve systems and processes, he helps keep our practice running smoothly so our clinicians can focus on supporting children and families.

James is known for his willingness to help, his calm approach to problem-solving, and his friendly nature. Many of our younger clients enjoy stopping for a chat with him about Lego, Minecraft, Pokémon, gaming, collecting and many other special interests.

Thank you, James, for everything you do for our team and the families we support!

Happy Global Day of Parents!

Today we celebrate the incredible parents, carers, grandparents, foster carers and family members who support, guide and nurture children every day.

Parenting is one of the most important—and often one of the most challenging—jobs in the world. The love, patience, encouragement and care you give helps children grow, learn and thrive.

To all the parents and caregivers in our community: thank you for everything you do. We see your hard work, your dedication and the difference you make every day. We see what amazing patience and energy you have. You really are like angels!

Happy Global Day of Parents from all of us at Sara Balmer Psychology for Kids.

🎉 FUN FRIDAY 🎉

We are exploring favourite games our team loves using in therapy sessions. 😊

Sara likes UNO FLIP because it is action-packed, fast, fun with unexpected twists and turns in the game. It adds laughter and energy to the session and creates connection through fun.

Fun, creativity, connection, and play can all help children and teenagers feel more relaxed, engaged, and emotionally safe in therapy. Sometimes the most meaningful moments happen alongside shared laughter, curiosity, and connection.

How do we engage children and teenagers who don’t want to come to therapy?

One of the most important parts of therapy is helping young people feel safe, comfortable, and understood. That’s why we use many creative and engaging approaches to build connection and trust.

Depending on the child or teen, this might include:
• Craft and drawing
• Play-based activities
• Games
• Lego and construction activities
• Puzzles and colouring
• Special interests and hobbies
• Movement, humour, and conversation
• And so much more

When children and adolescents feel relaxed and genuinely engaged, it becomes much easier for them to open up about worries, emotions, challenges, and the things on their mind.

Often therapy doesn’t start with talking — it starts with connection.
