Lockdown in New Zealand proves to be a good chance to go through the GoPro footage from this years JJ Giltinan where the New Zealand team delivered solid results. We were stoked to come away with the win on handicap and 12th overall, C-Tech 10th and Honda Marine New Zealand winning the event for the third time.
The event delivered all conditions, and Australian 18 Footers managed to get the scheduled amount of races which was not an easy task considering the event was cut short by a weekend due to the virus concerns.
Massive thanks to the Sponsors, volunteers and Sailors because without all of those we would not have an event to compete at. Going through shots like these make us excited to get back out on the water as soon as lockdown here is lifted!

Tricky day out today, a flukey Southerly brought anything from 8knts to 20s. We got caught up with boats on the line and and the first bottom mark which put us out the back of the fleet but we worked hard and ended up right with the pack leading up to the finish line. Given the circumstance we are happy with a 13th over the line and we are looking forward to staying clean in the racing tomorrow! Thanks to Live Sail Die for the pic, and congratulations to Honda Marine New Zealand for the first gun of the regatta 👍

Great to get out on the water for the invitation race today, felt fast but a few decisions meant we were at the back end of the lead pack. Looks like some big breeze scheduled for the start of points races tomorrow!

Great day out yesterday, managed 2 decent races in light and shifty conditions to come away with a 7th and 6th over the line.

Day 2 started better than day 1, we had some good battles around the course and some good rides downwind. Upper end 1 rig conditions kept everyone on their toes and ended up proving too much for our starboard cap shroud which went bang on the final downwind and unfortunately some positions were dropped before the finish. Rig is luckily intact so we used the lay day today to make some new caps and re-tune the big rig to working order. Looking windy for the resume of racing tomorrow 👍

Tough practice day today, after 2 abandoned starts a timing issue in the third put us behind early on. Struggled to pick the shifts on a flukey Sydney East to nor-easter which left us fighting for the spots at the back of the fleet. Boatspeed and handling still felt good so we are looking forward to learning from our mistakes and starting the races that count tomorrow!
Be sure to tune in to Suellen Davies at Live Sail Die for pictures and after racing chat, and Australian 18 Footers for live streaming of all the races this coming week.
