Very sorry to hear of the passing of Sonny Clissold this morning. I met Sonny up in Moree just over a decade ago when writing a story for Bicycling Australia (link attached). We’d never met before, but he welcomed me warmly into his home, gave me a cuppa, showed me some of his many cycling mementos (and statues in his back yard!) and we talked for a quite a few hours. Some of the stories he shared with me! What a character. RIP Sonny.
Little Aussie Battler - Bicycling Australia It may have been home to the Sutton Brothers, not to mention one of the nation’s largest annual track carnivals. But with just seven Cycling Australia registered members, today the NSW town of Moree has one of the smallest cycling clubs in the land. Peter Maniaty visited recently to find out if si...

Three Aussies are now in the GC top 10 after Blockhaus... and while Vingegaard looked good, he didn't look THAT much better than everyone else, suggesting this Giro could get very interesting in the coming fortnight 👀 🙌

"I cannot believe what we have just witnessed." Even by Giro standards that stage was nuts 🥜 Crashes, wrong turns, comebacks. Bonkers.

Another crash for Jay Vine, hopefully he’ll be okay, they’re coming thick and fast in 2026 after getting whacked by a kangaroo at the TDU 😞
More heartbreak for Jay Vine as the Australian climber has been forced out of the Giro d'Italia after a heavy crash during the rain-soaked second stage in Bulgaria, continuing a brutal run of bad luck for the UAE Team Emirates rider.
Vine was taken away on a stretcher before being transported to hospital, while teammate Marc Soler also required medical assessment.
Team leader Adam Yates also crashed but managed to finish the stage bloodied and covered in mud, but it leaves his general classification hopes effectively over after losing more than 12 minutes.
All the best for a quick recovery, Jay. 😢

Very sad to hear the news of Alex Zanardi's passing. I was fortunate enough to interview him 10 years ago for Bicycling Australia in the lead up to the Rio Paralympic Games. He was very generous with his time and very candid. RIP to an extraordinary human who achieved extraordinary things despite several horrific crashes on four wheels, and then two 😢
No Accident: Alex Zanardi Find a Paralympian and chances are you’ll find an inspirational story. But few can match the tale of champion racing-driver-turned-hand-cyclist, Alex Zanardi.
