Great to see a few of our Bennelong Members out flying the flag at the recent Dark Cherry Pyegaine! 🍒🌙

Huge kudos to those who braved the bushland after dark for a night of navigation and teamwork. It’s awesome to see the Bennelong spirit out in full force at local events like these! 🧭🌲

FUN FACT #10!
Bennelong club is named after Woollarawarre Bennelong, a Wangal man who served as an interlocutor between the Eora and the British in the earliest days of the New South Wales colony

Lost in the woods? Your brain might thank you! 🌲🧭

Recent research suggests that orienteering is a powerhouse for preventing cognitive decline. It’s not just cardio; it’s a workout for your mind.

Here’s why ditching the GPS for a map and compass is a game-changer:

🧠 Hippocampus Power: Navigating unfamiliar terrain stimulates the part of the brain responsible for memory -the first area often hit by Alzheimer’s.
🧪 Brain Growth: Vigorous orienteering boosts BDNF, a chemical that literally helps grow new brain cells.
🗺️ Ancestral Skills: It preserves the "neural architecture" our ancestors used for survival, which modern GPS has made us lose.

Want to sharpen up? Try these simple "orienteering" hacks:

📍 Turn off the GPS and use a physical map.
📍 Take a brand-new route on your next walk or bike ride.
📍 Combine your next run with a mental puzzle.

Exercise your body, find your way, and save your brain! 🏃‍♂️✨
