Made it on the local Parkrun page. ✔️
For many people, exercise is often framed as something we should do to improve performance, productivity, or fitness outcomes.
But there’s another reason it matters.
Research suggests regular physical activity can support stress regulation, improve mood, and help our bodies recover from the cumulative demands of modern work and life.
Our nervous systems evolved for movement, recovery, and periods of rest—not hours of sustained cognitive load, constant notifications, and back-to-back decision-making.
A run through the park won't remove life's challenges, but it can create space to reset, reflect, and restore capacity.
Because capacity comes before performance.
As we head into the weekend, consider what helps you recharge—not because you've earned it, but because maintaining capacity is part of sustainable health and wellbeing.
What does recovery look like for you?

Most burnout conversations start too late.
By the time someone is exhausted, disengaged, or considering leaving, the conditions that created the problem have often been present for months.
The warning signs are usually visible much earlier:
• excessive workload
• competing priorities
• low control
• unclear expectations
• insufficient support
These are psychosocial risks.
Not personality flaws.
As organisations continue to focus on performance, an important question remains:
Are we helping people cope with unhealthy conditions?
Or are we addressing the conditions themselves?
Burnout prevention doesn't begin with resilience training.
It begins by understanding the conditions people are being asked to perform within.

Psychosocial safety isn't one person's responsibility.
Creating a mentally healthy workplace requires everyone playing their part:
🔹 Employers — Manage psychosocial hazards through policies, training and support systems.
🔹 Leaders — Model healthy boundaries, have safe conversations and escalate risks early.
🔹 MHFAiders — Provide initial support and connect people with appropriate help.
🔹 Workers — Look out for each other and follow reporting pathways.
Psychosocial safety is not just about supporting individuals—it's about creating conditions where people can work sustainably.

Mental toughness isn’t about ignoring stress or “just coping.”
Evidence indicates sustainable performance is built through skills and conditions that support people under pressure.
The 4Cs of Mental Toughness focus on:
✔️ Control
✔️ Commitment
✔️ Confidence
✔️ Challenge
Together, these mindsets can support resilience, growth, and healthier performance at work and in life.
But mental toughness doesn’t happen in isolation.
Leadership, team culture, workload, and psychological safety all influence how people respond to challenge.
Because human capacity comes before performance.
Which of the 4Cs resonates most with you right now?

Burnout doesn’t start with exhaustion.
It starts with:
• unclear expectations
• constant pressure
• low control
• poor support
Prevention is performance protection.
The best leaders don’t just drive outcomes.
They design conditions people can sustain.
Human capacity comes before performance.

Burnout prevention is not just about resilience.
Research increasingly suggests it’s about conditions.
A study exploring coaching, mindfulness, and collaborative learning found people experienced greater wellbeing when environments reduced fear, pressure, and self-judgement.
What helped most?
• psychological safety
• supportive connection
• meaningful learning
• space to experiment without shame
When humans feel safe enough to engage, confidence and capability can grow.
When pressure consistently exceeds capacity, performance narrows.
Not because people are weak.
Because nervous systems were never designed for sustained overload.
Human capacity comes before performance.
Leadership shapes the conditions that determine whether people can sustain both.

Burnout doesn’t happen overnight.
It often builds quietly through sustained pressure, emotional load, unclear expectations, and workplaces operating beyond human limits.
Research suggests burnout is closely linked to unmanaged chronic workplace stress — not personal weakness.
When capacity is consistently exceeded, people may experience:
• Emotional exhaustion
• Reduced empathy and motivation
• Cognitive fatigue
• Disengagement from work and relationships
This matters for individuals, teams, and organisations alike.
Supportive leadership, healthier work design, and early intervention can make a meaningful difference.
Because sustainable performance starts with sustainable humans.
If this resonates, it may be time to rethink how success is being measured within your workplace.
