Coming off the high of the water polo World Cup, it’s a stark reminder that there is still so much hate and division in the world, and that the fight for safety and belonging is far from over.

Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by the attack at Berlin Pride; those injured, their loved ones, the organisers, and the entire LGBTQIA+ community in Berlin and beyond.

Pride is an act of courage. It always has been. And no act of violence or hatred will ever extinguish the light, the love, or the defiance that Pride represents.

From our little corner of Sydney — a club built on the belief that sport should welcome everyone — we stand firmly alongside our global community.

At Sydney Stingers, we’re proud that our all-gender social comp gives every player a space to play water polo as themselves. We’re equally proud of our non-binary members competing in the Water Polo NSW Metro comp, bringing their skill and spirit to the wider league.

We know inclusion isn’t a one-off, it’s something we keep working at, every training session, every game, every conversation.

This year’s theme, 50 Years of Deadly, honours five decades of culture, resistance and community leadership.

We’re proud to celebrate one of our own: Keegan Forbes, an emerging contemporary Aboriginal artist and Kamilaroi man, who designed our 25-year anniversary swimwear. Keegan produces his work in Darlinghurst on Gadigal Country — a contemporary reflection of his connection to Country and culture, and his own journey as an Aboriginal man, just like those who came before him.

The Sydney Stingers acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land and water we train and play on, and pay our respects to Elders past and present.

NAIDOC Week runs 5–12 July.

Our Intermediate team of Sydney Stingers Water Polo X Perth White Pointers Water Polo Club have wrapped up their group games at Gay Games Valencia! They made it through to the Quarterfinals against San Francisco!

Our recreational team of Sydney Stingers Water Polo X Melbourne Surge Waterpolo have wrapped up their group games at Gay Games Valencia! They are now through to the Quarterfinals for an epic showdown against Melbourne!
