We are more than athletes: Maori & Pasifika must be in non playing roles too.
Although we have high representation of Maori and Pasifika athletes throughout the sports arena, we are grossly underrepresented in non playing sporting roles. Many coaches, sports media and club boardrooms are formed without Maori & Pasifika people or community consultation.
We are seen internationally in sporting codes such as UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), Rugby Union, Rugby league and Boxing. However, the sports systems we are in, donât always reflect us, as they were made without us. Sadder yet, several sporting organisations still continue to operate using our people as merely âphysical labourâ.

The Wallabiesâ dramatic slump has given Rennie a gift. Now he must use it wisely:
As headlines rage about why the Wallabies have fallen off a cliff and pray for Quade Cooper and Samu Kereviâs returns, Dave Rennie has been given a gift.
Former British and Irish Lions playmaker Stuart Barnes wrote in a pre-match column for The Times the Wallabies had more chance of winning the World Cup in 2023 than knocking over Eddie Jonesâ England at Twickenham. He still might be proven right.
With up to half-a-dozen players missing, including the world class talents of Kerevi, Taniela Tupou and Marika Koroibete, the Wallabies had little chance of beating England on their home soil.

The players the All Blacks may look to inject to bounce back from loss:
While the latest loss to Ireland may have left a sour taste in some fansâ mouthes, given how comprehensively the All Blacks were both outthought and outplayed by their opposition, Ian Fosterâs men can still finish the season with an impressive 13-2 record with a victory against France in the final match of their European tour.

While a change in strategy might be needed from the All Blacks, some key personnel changes could also increase their chances against France next weekend.

The Super Rugby Pacific draw has been locked in for the inaugural season in 2022.
The new competition will kick off as newcomers Moana Pasifika take on the Brumbies at Mt Smart Stadium on Friday February 18.
Each team will play a total of 14 matches during the 91-game regular season, with fixtures geared towards more family-friendly times.
Headlining the announcement is the confirmation of 'Super Round Melbourne' in round two, which is set to be held at AAMI Park.
This will see all teams play at the venue from Feburary 25-27 as part of a festival of Rugby heading to Victoria.
It comes as Super Rugby introduces a host of themed rounds, including Women in Rugby Round in Round 3, Culture Round in Round 6, ANZAC Round in Round 10, and a Heritage Round in Round 12, where each team will acknowledge their unique past, present and future.

Implementing A Rooney Rule-Like Regulation Could Help The NRL Address A Lack Of Diversity:
It isnât usually newsworthy in Australian rugby league when one of the least fashionable teams in the English Super League changes coaches. Last week, however, a small yet monumental barrier was broken down that should make the National Rugby League (NRL) sit up and take notice.
When Wakefield Trinity appointed former New Zealand and Samoa international Willie Poching as their head coach, it marked the first time a Samoan had been named head coach of a first grade rugby league team anywhere in the world.

Does The NRL Need A Rooney Rule?
Willie Poching made history as the first ever Samoan first grade rugby league coach. But does the NRL need to do more to help Pacific Islander representation in coaching and administration?

Manu Samoa's end of season rugby tour has been cancelled because of Covid-19 travel restrictions.
The Manu were scheduled to kick off their tour against Georgia on 6 November, before taking on Uruguay, Spain and the Barbarians.
But Lakapi Samoa has confirmed the tour will not proceed, while the Manu Samoa 7s team have also pulled out of the upcoming World Rugby Sevens Series legs in Dubai.
Lakapi Samoa CEO Faleomavaega Vincent Fepuleai said the Board decision was taken in line with the Government's current health and travel advice.
"Lakapi Samoa was not able to guarantee the safety of any of our players and management whilst on campaign and the current State Of Emergency (SOE) measures by the Government restricts the return of anyone within six months of contacting the virus," he said.
