This is what ocean plastic looks like when we give a damn about what it becomes.

Plastic doesn't disappear • It breaks down into smaller and smaller fragments — some visible to the naked eye, absorbed by marine life, entering the food chain from the bottom up. Microplastics have been found in the deepest ocean trenches and in the tissue of fish we eat.

Reclaiming ocean plastic doesn't solve everything, but it's better than what happens when it's left out there.

When coral bleaches, it doesn't die straight away • Rising ocean temperatures cause it to expel the tiny algae that give it colour and life. What's left is white. Skeletal. And if the heat doesn't pass quickly enough, it won't recover.

The Great Barrier Reef has now experiences five mass bleaching events since 2016. That used to be a one-in-a-decade occurence.

Coral covers less than 1% of the ocean floor, yet it supports around a quarter of all marine life. It's worth fighting for.

The ocean's largest fish • Gentle giant, filter feeder, and completely harmless — unless you're plankton.

Whale sharks can reach 12 metres and live for over 70 years. They're listed as endangered, largely due to boat strikes and fishing bycatch.
