Ever thought about taking your rugby game to the bottom of the pool? The UNSW Whales are looking for new players to join our pod! Whether you're a seasoned pro or have never worn a pair of fins in your life, there’s a spot in the water for you. Our beginners sessions are designed for you to get to know the game in a non intimidating environment.
Our team is all about inclusivity. We pride ourselves on welcoming space for everyone to get active, meet a fabulous community and play one of the most unique sports in the world.

What a night at the 2025 UNSW Sports Awards Gala Dinner! Our Underwater Rugby club was proud to celebrate with the UNSW sporting community.
A massive congratulations to our dedicated club member, Adam Inchley, who was honoured with the prestigious Doug Crawford Award! Coach Nick Coumbis was on hand to accept the award.
The team had a fantastic time mingling and celebrating UNSW Sport in the Grand Ballroom at the Australian Turf Club. We are so proud to be part of this community!

STEINFELD CUP SAVE THE DATE - The Whales are pleased to announce we are hosting the Steinfeld Cup again this year on 12-13 October at Leichhardt Park Aquatic Centre. More details to come soon! We hope to see you all there!

Another great nationals done and dusted for the Whales! Over 24th-26th May the Whales were over in Perth competing with Australia’s best underwater rugby players. Congrats to our women’s team (the UNSW Platypuses) who took home the Bronze medal and to their captain who was the top goal scorer for the entire competition with a whopping 11 goals!
Our men’s team played some great and close games, and finished up in 5th position.
