Zuckers is telling me it's been a while and I should therefore post something to keep my page breathing, so here we go: Last year, I was handed a Ricky with what was probably the most atrocious soldering job I've seen in my 23 years at the bench. Resurrection seemed futile, so I chucked in all-new components. For the purpose of hilarity, here's the before and after 👉

Just dropping in with a confession: Despite 52 years playing and 22 years fixing, the "front-back" pickup identification method continues to elude and perplex me. I have to pause and search my memory banks every time. Logic is of no assistance. There are surely others like me, eternally wondering about the rationale of describing pickups thusly. Or am I it? (Photo of very hip Mojo "Jetsons" Charlie Christian pickup, which probably belongs on the front of a Tele, just for fun..)

Just dropping in to point out that I rarely venture out to see a "tribute act" (you know how I feel about them 🙄) but this is bound to be a cracker: To honour the first anniversary of the death of the great Jeff Beck, my mate Paul Mason has booked the upstairs room at Factory Theatre Marrickville and assembled a sublime combo to present, in spectacular fashion, an evening of the music of. Besides young Pauly - who nails the Beck thing with more grace and finesse than anyone I've heard, then garnishes it with his Special Mason Sauce (don't ask, don't tell), too many guitars will be wielded by a smorgasbord of legends and a killer band.
