If I trained first thing in the morning:
We’ve all been there, training first thing in the morning isn’t “ideal” but for many of us, it’s our only way of training during the day and there’s no way around it.
Here’s a few tips if you find yourself in that bracket.
Fuelling your session: A topic of big debate in regard to this time in the morning, do you train fasted? Do you have some food before hand?
Now whilst this can come down to personal preference, as we all know, food is fuel. And if you’re doing any form of exercise, you’re better off being fuelled, than not.
I’m not saying you need to have a massive bowl of porridge at 4am, but something quick and easy to digest will only benefit your session. Think dried mango, dates or a Banana. Something that you can even have whilst on the way to your session.
Hydration: This goes without saying, but you’ll just be waking up for at least 6-8 hours of sleep, which will leave you dehydrated. If you’re not hydrating yourself as soon as you wake up, start doing it. If you’re doing a longer session, then maybe think about adding some electrolytes.
Caffeine: Everyone’s favourite part of the day! But ensure you’re giving yourself about 30-45 minutes for that caffeine to kick in and get in the system. Sadly, it doesn’t reach it’s peak immediately.
