I know I keep banging the same drum.
But if the muscles and tendons responsible for handling your running volume arenât strong enough, injuries tend to follow.
If you want to keep doing what you love, with reduced risk of injury, strength training is non-negotiable.

This comment made me stop for a second.
From the outside, people see me training for HOKA UTMBÂź Mont-Blanc .
They see the huge runs.
The mountains.
The strength work.
What they donât see is where it all started.
Four years ago, I ruptured my Achilles.
I couldnât even walk properly.
My first goal was simply to walk without a limp.
Then doing a calf raise.
Then trusting the leg enough to jog again.
Everything Iâve done since has been built from there.
Strength training.
Rehab.
Thousands of kilometres.
And a whole lot of patience.
Looking back, rupturing my Achilles was one of the hardest things Iâve ever been through.
But it completely changed the way I train.
It forced me to understand strength training and appreciate the little things in life.
It taught me patience.
It made me obsessed with building a body that could handle the training I was asking of it.
I honestly donât think Iâd be preparing for UTMB today if that injury never happened.
Funny how life works.
So when someone says, âAh, to be that fit...â
I take it as a genuine compliment.
But I also smile...
Because I remember exactly where it all started.
And if youâre in the middle of an injury right now... keep going. It gets better.

The truth? đ
Itâs hard.
Really fu***ng hard.
But thatâs the cost of entry.
I chose this.
There are 3:30am alarms.
Long days.
Hours spent planning routes, logistics and training.
There are sacrifices.
Mine.
And my familyâs.
Thatâs why I donât take any of this for granted.
I know I couldnât chase a goal like this without Victoria D'Arcy backing me every step of the way, or my girls cheering me on.
This race might have my name on the bibâŠ
âŠbut it belongs to all four of us.
And my amazing crew whoâll be chasing me around HOKA UTMBÂź Mont-Blanc .
I wouldnât have it any other way â€ïž
