Iām not a professional runner.
Iām a Dad of two, husband and business owner who decided he wanted to run 174km at .
Training for UTMB had to fit around school drop-offs, kidsā parties, running a business and normal family life.
And jees, it took some work š
These are the 5 things I did over 9 months of training that I believe made the biggest difference.
None of them are particularly sexy.
But they got me around Mont Blanc in 38 hours and 53 minutes. š«”ā°ļø

7 days since UTMBā¦
Itās been really nice to spend some quality time with the people who sacrificed so much to let me run at HOKA UTMBĀ® Mont-Blanc
My body is starting to feel good again, besides a really pi**ed off ITB š
Will start back in the gym this week with some easy running.
Itāll take around 6-8 weeks for full recovery.
Thereās a lot of stuff happening beneath the surface after ultras like these.
Even if you feel great physically, thereās a large recovery cost for the central nervous system.
And coming back too soon can lead to injury.
All in all, happy with recovery so far.
Enjoying allllllll of the calories š„

One of the things I didnāt expect to enjoy so much about UTMB was everything that happened around the race.
Beforehand, I got to meet a heap of fellow Aussies Iād previously only known through Instagram.
Shakeout runs. Coffees. Sharing nerves about what was coming.
Then afterwards, hobbling around Chamonix swapping war stories about what had just happened to us š
Thereās something pretty bloody cool about that.
I also somehow ended up behind Andrew Glaze for a good chunk of the race.
Which meant I spent several hours staring at a pair of jorts bouncing around the mountains š
Then bumped into him in Chamonix the following day and got to share stories about our races.
The bloke is a dead set legend.
How bloody good is this sport?
Running might be an individual pursuit, but the camaraderie between runners is one of the things I love most about it.
To everyone I ran with, laughed with, suffered alongside or simply crossed paths with over the last couple of weeksā¦
What an experience. š¤ā°ļø
Thanks for making it as special as it was.
Ps. I know Iāve missed a good chunk of people - apologies!

Iām still speechless.
I could throw a hundred clichĆØ amalgams about my experience in HOKA UTMBĀ® Mont-Blanc .
Like how it was life changingā¦
And just how insane the atmosphere was from the spectators.
Or how hard every single climb and descent was.
Itās all true.
But no matter how hard I try to describe it, nothing comes close to how it actually was. It really was insane.
This race was everything to me.
And to run across the finish line with my daughter was something Iāll never forget.
My brain and body are melted. Itāll take some time to recover.
I want to say a BIG thank you to everyone who reached out to give support.
Iām honestly overwhelmed by the amount of messages - THANK YOU. š
Itās really appreciated.
Time for some much needed rest and recovery with the family.
Until next time, Chamonix.
