Congratulations to Steven Lawrence from Singleton Netball Association, our Hyundai Netty Legend of the Month.

We’re continuing the 2026 Netty Legend of the Month program, now supported by Hyundai, celebrating the volunteers who are the heartbeat of grassroots netball across NSW.

Steve stepped into netball with no prior experience, inspired by his daughters’ love of the game, and has since grown into a respected coach, mentor and community leader across the association.

Passionate about inclusion and culture, Steve also created the Koori program “Kuulang,” establishing two teams focused on celebrating culture, connection, community and team spirit through netball.

His commitment has seen him appointed as a Development Coach, and he now also serves as Coaching Convenor.

This National Volunteer Week, we celebrated the people who keep our netball community thriving 🩵🧡

GIANTS players Lucy Austin and Jane Watson surprised Cheryl Samuel, Vice President of the Mount Druitt Netball Association - to thank her for the countless hours she gives back to the game.

Alongside her role as Vice President, Cheryl also coaches two teams at the Electric Blue Netball Club. During the visit, players got to ask questions, take photos with the GIANTS, and enjoy a training session run by the athletes themselves - giving Cheryl a well deserved night off from coaching.

Across courts, canteens, committee rooms and clubhouses throughout New South Wales, volunteers continue to be the heartbeat of our netball community.

During National Volunteer Week, Netball NSW is recognising the incredible contribution volunteers make across the state.

Chair of the Netball NSW Youth Advisory Group, Sofia Novak, reflected on the importance of volunteers and the value of ensuring young people have a voice in shaping the future of the game.

“We’re the generations coming through and we have different perspectives,” she said. “It’s really important that we can speak and volunteer so that more young people can get involved.”
