Welcome to the Tamworth Kangaroos AFL Club. Here you can stay up to date with the Roos! Training is on Wednesday nights at Riverside 5 through the season.
The Tamworth Australian Football League (TAFL) began in 1997 as a Tamworth local league with just four teams competing, the foundation clubs being the Prime Magpies, David Mitchell Swans, Courthouse Eagles and Nuttsy's Bulldogs. In 1999, Nuttsy's Bulldogs were renamed to the Cargill Kangaroos, and in 2002 the Cargill Kangaroos were again renamed to today’s Tamworth Kangaroos. As football in the re
gion has grown the TAFL has expanded into the NSW AFL North West competition. The Tamworth Kangaroos play teams across the North West Narrabri/Moree Suns, Gunnedah, Armidale, Inverell and our cross town rivals, the Tamworth Swans. We are a very successful club, having rarely missing in the finals, and winning 4 premierships from 7 grand finals appearances. During this period, we have also received many individual awards including 2 coach of the year, 7 league best and fairest, 5 best on ground grand final day, 5 leading goal kicker, 2 rising star and 3 sporting pulse coaches awards. In 2017 one of our own Danielle Abbot was the driving force in setting up the North West's AFL Women's competition. This competition has expanded from 4 teams to 6 teams across the North West that mirrors the men's competition. The Tamworth Roosters are the combined junior development teams of the Tamworth Kangaroos and Swans AFL teams. There are a mixed U14s team, U17s boys team, and for the first time an u17s Youth Girl's team. We are both a family club and a very social club and for season 2022 we have again secured the Tamworth Hotel as our major sponsor. This is where all our home game, after match presentations will be held. In the NWAFL, the opposition team also supports the respective home team by returning to the sponsor’s establishment for post-match awards. Many TKAFC members, friends and families dine and socialise each weekend. Other Club events such as karaoke, trivia and presentation nights are also held here. The club has several functions each season which spans across nearly the entire year and not just the footy season. We run preseason training, jersey presentation evening, event nights, individual celebrations as well as finals celebrations with many of the team continuing to catch up over the off season. The people in this club are found to represent the heart and soul of Tamworth living with a wide cross section of community members involved from business identities, hard-working people, local families and young people with big futures. It has been and remains to be a club that attracts and welcomes new people to the club and the region. Theme Song
Out we come, out we come, out we come to play,
Just for recreation sake to pass the time away,
Heaps of fun, loads of fun, enjoy yourself today,
The Rooboys will be hard to beat when they come out to play,
So,
Join in the chorus, sing it one and all,
Join in the chorus, the Roos are on the ball,
Good old Rooboys as champions we will be,
The Rooboys will be Premiers, just you wait and see! The Tamworth Australian Football League (TAFL) began in 1997 as a Tamworth local League with four teams competing. The foundation clubs being the Prime Magpies, David Mitchell Swans, Courthouse Eagles and Nuttsy's Bulldogs. In 1999 the Nuttsy's Bulldogs changed to the Cargill Kangaroos and in 2002 the Cargill Kangaroos were renamed as today’s Tamworth Kangaroos. The 2009 season was disappointing with the Club finishing as Minor Premiers but bowing out in straight sets in the finals. The 2010 season had the Kangaroos again right in the mix with the team eventually going down in the Grand Final to the Inverell Saints.
2011 was a very successful year for the Club with a Premiership just reward for a fantastic season, with the side winning all but one match for the season. In 2012 the Roos finished in third, going down in the Preliminary Final to the eventual winners, the New England Nomads.
2013 had the Roos finish third on the ladder and bow out again in the Premliminary Final this time to the Inverell Saint at Inverell.

🔵⚪️ELIMINATION FINAL - Kangaroos vs Swans⚪️🔵
The 2026 season unfortunately came to a disappointing end for the girls with a loss to the Swans in the elimination final last Saturday. However for the most it was a very positive season full of way more highlights than lowlights. The core group of the side trained consistently and with purpose and the improvement of those players showed as a result of their dedication to improving their skills.
Our goal for the season was to improve the basic skills of the game and to try and kick more goals each game and see where that takes us.
We definitely achieved those goals and had it not been for a lack of numbers available each week then a higher finishing position would have been a genuine possibility. Our for and against versus the top 2 sides was significantly improved on previous seasons and the matches against Inverell on all 3 occasions were great contests to be a part of. It is a credit to the team that we were in with a winning chance in every single match we played with us running out of legs due to lack of numbers, the theme of the season.
The girls should be proud of their efforts on the field and also the way they stuck together right to the end. A big recruiting drive in the off season is required and we will see even further improvement. I look forward to being part of rewarding some individual achievements at our end of year presentation in a few weeks.

⚪️🔵 ELIMINATION FINAL - Kangaroos vs Bulldogs🔵⚪️
Last Saturday, the Roos travelled to Gunnedah for a tough Elimination Final, looking to bounce back after going down to them the week before.
The boys came out firing, with Luke Cameron finding plenty of the footy early and Ned Hagon providing a strong target up forward. The Roos took a 3-point lead into quarter time.
A dominant ruck display from Ned Hoath helped the midfielders gain plenty of opportunities in the second, while Mitchell Swain and Hayden Baker continued to provide options up forward. The Roos extended their lead to 12 points at half time.
The third quarter saw Matt Hall and Hayden Carter continue their strong work in defence, while Andrew McDonald created opportunities up forward. Nick Buckland continued his outstanding form on the wing, even adding a goal of his own as the Roos pushed their lead out to 21 points at the final break.
Gunnedah came out fighting in the last, but the Roos held their composure. Connor Meyers and Carl Frazier stood strong in defence, while a crucial goal from Nick Buckland helped settle the side and keep Gunnedah at arm’s length.
The final siren sounded with the Roos running out 16-point winners, booking their spot in a Preliminary Final! 🦘🔥
