“It makes me feel human.”

We asked a few of the crew why they keep coming back. Not one of them mentioned a number on the scale.

For the kids. To train next to their daughter. To do the job properly. Because it’s the one place in the week that feels like theirs.

That’s what tribe does - makes the rest of your life better, not just the hour you spend in it.

Showing up, not showing off.

The foam roller in the corner of your lounge room. Yeah, that one.

Bought with the best intentions. Currently holding up a pot plant.

Kayla’s got two things you can actually do with it - both for your thoracic, aka your mid-back, aka the bit that’s been folded over a desk, a steering wheel and a phone all day.

Neither one needs gym gear or a warm-up. You can do them on the floor while the telly’s on tonight.

Give them a go and tell us if you can feel the difference. The roller’s already there. May as well.

Giselle woke up in hospital and was told she’d been asleep for three days.

She’d been in induced coma after surgery. It was touch and go for a while there.

Most of us have had a version of a moment like this. A test result. The specialist’s waiting room. A quiet drive home where you think, I can’t keep putting this off.

Giselle didn’t put it off. She walked in here, nervous like everyone is, and started with Lift.

These days she’s in four times a week, and she’ll tell you herself she’s the loud one. Her arthritis is easier to live with. She’s sleeping better. The stress has eased.

But ask her why she comes and she doesn’t mention any of that. She talks about grandkids who haven’t been born yet. About still being able to walk, and have fun, and be around for all of it.

“I show up because it’s for me.”

If you’ve had your own moment and you’re still sitting with it, come and say hi. You’ll know which one is Giselle.

POV: you found a workout that feels like a team sport.

It’s fast-paced and a little competitive.

Nobody’s keeping score. (Everybody’s keeping score.)

That’s Engine Room. Book in the app.

What’s harder - coaching a full Rip In class, or getting two kids out the door?

Not even close, apparently.

Ryan, pre-kids, was famously unmoved by the “I’ve got kids, I can’t train” crowd. Two kids later and the excuse basket’s looking a bit emptier. Turns out some of them weren’t excuses.

That said - he still runs on Sunday mornings. 3:57am. And is back before the kids are up.

So parents, you’re not getting off that easy.

Meet Ben. tribe PT, lifelong martial artist, and firmly team deadlift.

Sport’s been his whole life, so coaching it was always where he was going to end up - and one on one on the gym floor is where he does his best work.

Have a listen and you’ll get his favourite lift, the one that isn’t, and the training philosophy he’d write on the whiteboard every single day if we let him. It’s a good one - steal it.

Keen to train one on one with Ben? Book a PT session in the app.

We asked the same question, and got five different answers, and not one of them was about looking good.

Meet Sandy. Still showing up.

She’s had ten years at tribe, four to five sessions a week. Then came rheumatoid arthritis and learning to move again. Eighteen months ago, she had a total hip replacement.

Before surgery, she worked one-on-one with Nath, building strength one side at a time. A week after surgery, she was back on the gym floor with a walking stick. Everyone thought it was a prop.

A few weeks later the stick was gone. Six months later the strength was back. This year, at 60, Sandy ran the Sutherland to Surf - ten minutes slower than she did at 50.

If you’re new here, her advice is to find the classes you like and the people you like. “It’s really the people that keeps you here.”

Meet Emma. Still showing up.

She had a thoracic injury that reached her spinal cord. She couldn’t walk. And was in a lot of pain. She had no idea what the future looked like.

She’ll tell you she felt sorry for herself for a bit. Then the people around her said something that stuck: this is a chance to rein in what you can control.

Kayla put it another way when she walked back through our doors. This is an opportunity to rebuild.

So she did. Only the gentle stuff first. Then building. Now she’s doing things she didn’t think she’d ever get to do again.

Ask Emma what a win looks like these days and it’s simple - not being injured. That, and being the best role model she can for her son.

What kept her coming back wasn’t a program. It was walking in and everyone knowing her name. “Looking strong today, Em.” It’s those little things that add up.

If you’ve been sidelined and are nervous about coming back, the nerves just mean you care. Start gentle. Control what you can control. Build from there.

Showing up, not showing off.

If you’ve been out of it for a while and don’t know where to start, come in for a free consult. It’s a chat, no commitment - we’ll work out where you’re at and go from there. Taren Point or Kirrawee.

Ryan’s first GPT at tribe. He was on a trial, ten kilos heavier, fresh out of a strength training phase and fairly confident.

Kosti had him sussed inside a set.

First up was deadlifts. Then front foot elevated lunges, the a bench press. 90kg first set, 70 the next, 50 by the third, with Kosti pulling the bar off his chest and sending him straight into push-ups. He checked his watch. 23 minutes in. Another half hour to go.

He couldn’t move for a week.

The three women aged 40 to 50 training in the same group? They got through it no problem. Different weights, different load, same coach, same session.

That’s what we do. We don’t guess. We work out what you’re actually capable of - not what you tell us you are - and we coach you to it. For Ryan that day, it meant taking him down a few pegs. For the women beside him, it meant taking them exactly as far as they should go.

Ryan’s on the coaching team now. He does the same thing for the next person through the door.

Welcome to tribe.
