We are ALL going to have challenges with our bodies at some point

That’s how life is

It’s unrealistic to believe that nothing will ever happen to yours…

But it’s how you approach these that will make or break you

If rise above them and work on overcoming them them it’s very empowering

It doesn’t mean that problem is guaranteed to go away.
If you have a bad back the truth is you might always feel it, but you can get stronger even with pain and that means you will be more capable in your life.
Whether that looks like being able to sit/stand /walk for longer periods of time , be able to look after the kids or the grandkids and get more physically involved with them, ride a bike or go hiking again, or whatever it may be…

It can increase your quality of life

But you must play the long game

You must understand there WILL be flare ups

You have to know that if you come into my studio only once a week , you will need to do the homework I give you

You need to know that rehab can be boring

So if you have a bad back and want to try Pilates , give it the time it deserves.
Don’t do it for a few weeks, then say it didn’t work for you.
You WILL need 6-12 months of consistency if you have had chronic pain for years .

I never make promises but what I can say is that Pilates can do magical things IF you are willing to put the work in

I’ve seen it with my clients and I have done with my own bulging disc

Your best body is waiting for you

How my group classes feel like a private …

Private classes are like a dream for some of us..

We long to have that individual attention with a one on one
We know that our progress will speed up
We know that working at our own level with carefully selected exercises that our body needs is the ultimate Pilates class

But, often it’s unaffordable

Well, that’s where my group classes are the next best thing and they almost feel like a private (with a couple of other awesome people in the room) because …

✅ they are really small groups
There will never be any more than 4 people at once. Usually 3 , occasionally even less if you are lucky

✅ your workout is tailored to you. How your body presents , what your injuries are, your level of capabilities, your goals, it’s not a generic one size fits all workout . Actually Pilates was never meant to be like that .

✅ you still get hands on corrections
Hands on corrections is such an effective way of learning and this is often not viable in a large group class with too many bodies for the instructor to get around. It’s really important that you understand the exercises and how to execute them and using hands on corrections works really well

✅ you get to use all of the other awesome apparatus I have in my studio
When there is only 3 clients we all get an opportunity to move around the studio (given that that’s what your body needs ) and experience Pilates as a full system which is also what I do with private clients

And the best part of all of this is the cost.

You get all of those things for just $35 a session.
That actually is the same price as many group reformer studios with 10 plus reformer beds and none of the other authentic Pilates apparatus

If this ad pounds like your jam, message me to get started and finish 2026 really strong 💪

💕 Breast cancer awareness month 💕

After a mastectomy, I found my body didn’t just need to heal.
It needed to feel safe again.

There’s a fear that sits quietly in the body.
A fear of moving.
Of pulling.
Of hurting.
Of not recognising yourself anymore.
there’s grief.
For the body you had.
For the plans that changed.
For the life you thought you would have
The body responds by protecting itself.
It grips and holds on.
Tightness in the chest, shoulders, neck, spine, and hips.
And when drains are still in for those first few weeks, every movement feels scary
There’s a constant awareness that healing is a way off

It can be so hard to release the fear.
To give yourself permission to let go.
To trust your body again.
That’s why I kept movement simple.
Shoulder shrugs and rolls.
Gentle neck movement.
Supine protraction and retraction.
Openings and switches.

Not to push.

Just trying to restore some function in the body

Because recovery isn’t just about regaining movement.
It’s about slowly rebuilding trust with your body — one small, supported moment at a time.

For me this all starts with the breath and laying in the floor feeling how the floor supports you while allowing your body to soften and let go was the best place for me

And these moves are also great if you have neck strain , a shoulder issue or just want to ease back into exercise after a break 💕

(Sorry for the blurry video, I still wanted to post it incase there’s someone that this helps💕)

This one really hit home…

Reposting thanks to Circle Pilates in Toronto

I hear it often from clients enquiring …
I’ve found reformer really cheap at the gym…

Yep, however it is not the same!
It’s so far from the Pilates method
It’s reformer fitness

At first glance all you see is the difference in number of clients
I teach 3-4 an hour
Gyms are 8-20 let’s say

But underneath it here’s what’s really the difference

Instructor qualification
- most (not all) reformer instructors have gained their reformer only qualification online or in person with a 3 week certification
-diploma and advanced diploma take around 9 months each

Apparatus
Gyms :sessions on a reformer (reformer only )
Full traditional Pilates studio : clients have use of reformers, Wunda chairs, Cadillac , baby arc, spine corrector, high barrel
This fully equipped studio gives you the best results as we use them to work on whatever the client needs to progress. (Pilates is a system)
The difference in the cost to the business owner is huge (which is ultimately the reason group reformer is everywhere is because it’s a business which is scalable , not because they want the best results for the clients )

Teaching quality
Well, imagine the difference in the knowledge of an instructor who has taken literally years to learn the method versus 3 weeks…
Diploma and advanced diploma students spend hundreds of hours with a mentor . Some group reformer trainings, students complete their hours watching videos or other group reformer instructors with a substandard certification

I mean you can say at least it’s getting people moving.
Which yes it is.
But it’s undermining the true method and the dedication of those of us that have been in the industry for decades
We are a disappearing breed and people are not aware of the difference.
They are simply drawn into great marketing and current trends and the aesthetics of the studio but missing the essence of what Pilates truly is.

So , sorry (not sorry 🤪) this re post has turned into a rant but please look at all your options.

Question your instructors qualification
We welcome it!

Go and try lots of different classes in different settings

Then decided what’s the best for or you

Have you tried all the different styles of Pilates?

I’d love to know …

I was thinking today about what I felt helped me with my recovery after cancer treatment. I really strongly feel like my fitness before I went through it all was a massive bonus.

Movement and specifically Pilates has been my life for 20 years and although it didn’t prevent my diagnosis or even make treatment easy, but it gave me a starting point and definitely sped up the process

It meant I had some strength to draw on when treatment affected my energy, my muscles and my confidence. It helped me understand the difference between challenging my body and pushing beyond what it could manage. It also gave me a movement practice I could adapt when my usual routine was no longer possible.
Some days, fitness looked like Pilates.
Some days, it was walking.
Some days, it was breathing, gentle mobility or simply getting out of bed and moving a little.
Some days it was rehab …

The lesson was that recovery isn’t about returning to the person you were before. It’s about meeting your body where it is in that moment and gradually rebuilding from there.

I share this not as advice but as my truth.

None of us know what’s around the corner and maybe you are simply not an exerciser and that’s ok!

But if you are going through this s**t storm, give starting movement a thought. Finding a safe way to exercise might be exactly what your body and mind needs 💕

October is Breast Cancer awareness month

You might have seen lots of pink in your feed and it felt like time to share a bit more about how specifically Pilates helped to keep me sane and helped me recover from all the stages of my treatment right up to today.

Our cancer journeys are all unique and so are our recoveries. Some of us are lucky to be cancer free while others sadly are learning to live with cancer.
Treatments are all different , but somehow us pink sisters find ourselves bonded in a way that only those going through it really understand

Movement is healing for me. My situation is unique because I have 21 years of Pilates knowledge behind me and my own Pilates studio in my home, I can move my body any time I like.
But when you go through this , and you are ready to start exercising again, finding a safe space, without judgement might not be an option.
I want you to know I am here.
I get it.
I’ve lived it
I know what it feels like to be scared to move your body for fear of hurting yourself, to feel frustrated , sad, angry all at once and what these emotions to do you physically
I also know how to ease back into exercise safely, sensibly, and how well chosen exercises can rebuild the confidence in your body again

So if this resonates, (and maybe you are the support person for a loved one rather than going through it personally ) look out for my following posts and hopefully it will bring some hope to you x

Feet in straps is usually a favourite on the Reformer

But are you still doing large circles?

While great for hip mobility , often we are not properly engaging our powerhouse to support the hips in this exercise..

Strength usually needs to be built before mobility.

So instead, press the legs out lower from the frog but make sure you are scooping your abs in and up. I think about locking my back ribs down into the bed while keeping the spine long. This really fires up my powerhouse.Imagine someone should be able to stand in your stomach and your ribs while you do this.

From here, seperate the legs slightly, lower them, close them then return to start.

Keeping the circles low is a much greater challenge! Give it a go the next time you are on the Reformer.

I know you will feel the difference
